Comets Tail, also stylized as Comet's Tail Toybox, is a software plugin label operating as part of the Halley Labs project run by em essex out of Hamilton, Ontario. The label was previously known as Halley Labs Soundsoft (HL SØUNDSØFT) before being relaunched under its current name. Its tools were originally developed during the production of the Halley Labs album MORE ADVENTURES ~The Forever Fieldtrip~ and later released publicly.
The catalog consists of 64-bit VST3 and Audio Unit instruments and effects with an experimental, lo-fi character. Releases include the synthesizers ktso, ambiVAC, real animal, and psykic, alongside utility and effect tools such as bufferer, damascus, microdose, and phasedist. Plugins are distributed directly through the label's site with documentation included in lieu of formal technical support.
