Excellent Tool for Composing
I tend to compose in certain modes. It's really useful to be able to get all the chords of the scale or mode you are working in and drag and drop. I can save my own chord progressions, or construct and save and store my own chords for later use (I have a preference for stacked 4ths and 5ths). The blues scale was conspicuous by its absence (or perhaps I missed it somehow) but this is a minor concern and in a way I can see technical reasons why it might have been left out or thought unnecessary (as it will most likely be played over chords constructed in a scale or mode that is close to it).
Excellent subtractive synth
An incredibly versatile subtractive synthesis. You get all the usual waveforms (saw, sine etc) and with the update you get wavetables too. Unlike synths that try to mimic the specific circuitry of vintage hardware analogue synths, Hive is fairly easy on the CPU, but you can still get a host of amazing "analogue" sounds.
