One of the gnarliest pieces of gear I've came across@!
Compared to other Jazz basses, the neck might be thicker than a spoon-full of molasses, but the playability is fantastic! Mine is loaded with custom shop Jaco Seymour-Duncan Pickups, Emerson pots, and a Leo Quan Badass II bridge for good measure! Sooooooo much funk and grit!

This was the first 5 string I ever saw played live. It was indeed scarlet-red, and the bassist was with Chubby Checker's band at the Down East Festival in Rocky Mount, NC. It was 1990. I decided I was into 5 strings or B-tuned basses. I also had a great experience trying out a B-tuned 4 string NS-2 in Manhattan.
