But it's by far the most expensive mic I ever used. Transients are clear, lot of High-End. I probably have to tame it some more sometimes, but the Mic is great.
Although you obviously pay for the name. I'm sure there are equal but cheaper alternatives out there.
Also you NEED acoustic treatment in your recording-room. This mic used in an untreaded room will not sound good!
If you want to upgrade your mic, but this one is too expensive and you don't have acoustic treatment, go with the Shure SM7B, or another dynamic mic. Acoustic treatment makes the difference!
Doesn't get better. Price goes up by 100$ per 1 or 2 years. But still worth.
After a lot of time I try to check for alternatives for my UAD-Plugins. You have to really clean up your Plugin-Folder after every UAD-Software-Update. It will always install ALL products available on the UAD-page (but you are not likely to spend several grand to use them all). So it loads all these plugins everytime you start your DAW. You have to manually delete all the plugins you don't own. After every update they get reinstalled, which is really poor customer service.
Other than that plugins are good (I do like Softube more nowadays, they are the only innovative Plugin-Company really, at least with regards to hardware emulation.)
I don't regret buying it, but if I find alternatives for my UAD-Plugins, I will delete them all, but still use the Apollo.
P.S.: Smoked a lot in the Studio, Apollo was on 24/7 for almost 5 years now, sometimes in very moist conditions. Still works like a machine, really sturdy, I did not think it would last that long really!
Use these only for Mastering. My ears are severely damaged and these headphones really hurt, if you use them for extended periods. Better use Headphones with a flat frequency response.
Takes breaks and protext your ears!
