You are looking into the MicroKorg. The MicroKorg is a relly good and popular synth. It is out here for 15 years (or so) for a reason, however. There are competitors with newer technology out there. I am thinking of the Novation MiniNova and the Roland Xi.

I can not saty much about the Xi, but I own the MininNova (also available as the MoroderNova edition). First, I was thinking of getting the MicroKorg, but then I decided to go with the MiniNova after seeing a deal in Craifslist and reading up on it.

Main reasons for the MiniNove over MicroKorg:

1. You get more bang for the buck. It is not as well known, so the prices are lower or the same.
2. The sound engine is more advanced. 3 Wvetable Oscillators, 5 free assignable effect slots and a more advanced vocoder. This thing is a wolf in sheep clothing.
3. The Microphone can be easyly replaced if you loose it. Half of the used MicroKorgs are missing the microphone.

All three (MiniNova, MicroKorg and Roland Xi) sound different, and have their fans and haters. You may listen to yourself, if you like the sound of the MiniNova, or if you prefer the MicrKorg, even it is not as advanced.
