The Blessed Mother, just like the name would suggest, is equal parts unique and inspiring. The range of tones goes deep and wide thanks to the Immaculator, which allows you to control the transparency of the drive. This enables you to dial in anything from a vintage Tubescreamer-like grit to a heavenly transparent boost. The Blessed Mother plays well with others and often enhances other drives in the signal chain. The gain (thanks to a supernatural combination of silicon and germanium diodes) has a warm and sweet character to it, just like you would expect from God's mom. Separate treble and bass controls allow you to really control the feel, but the specialty of this pedal is its powerful midrange that can cut through no matter where on the neck you are playing. It runs on 9v or 18v and is true bypass.

The two-transistor 'MK1.5' Tone Bender was built by Sola Sound during a period of several months spanning from approximately late-1965/early-66 to mid-1966. The unusual model designation of the 'MK1.5' refers to how the pedal sits, chronologically, between the three-transistor Tone Bender from 1965 (now dubbed the 'MKI') and the three-transistor Tone Bender Professional MKII. A useful way of looking at this model is by considering it to be a transitional Tone Bender, built between the famous three-transistor ‘MKI’ and Professional MKII models.

In 2019 I stumbled across a pedal that didn’t exist.

Yeah, cue the Twilight Zone theme song.

It was a DOD Overdrive / Preamp that predated the “Gray Box” 250 pedals that everyone– myself included –had assumed were the first version ever made. The pedal was encased in a large gray folded metal enclosure that resembled Electro-Harmonix more than DOD, and it was conspicuously lacking the “250” model number. The typeset and DOD logo were different, but it still had the same charm and quirky feel of the vintage 1970s DOD. The sticker on the pedal’s backplate said “DOD Electronics Company” and listed the home address of founder David Oreste Di Francesco, as well as a number: 75. According to my interview with David himself a year later, I had found the 75th DOD pedal ever made and one of the first ten DOD Overdrive / Preamps (250) ever sold. This stompbox represented the genesis of “America’s Pedal.” For a pedal historian, it was the equivalent of uncovering the Dead Sea Scrolls.

The internals featured a floating/loose hand-etched PCB and the same DOD 250 circuit, but with a few changes. The internal parts dated as early as 1972 and, according to David, were harvested from old radios and electronics he scavenged when he started building his first effects.

The JHS Overdrive Preamp is a faithful replication of this unobtainable V1 of DOD’s most loved pedal. The controls are simple. The Level control adjusts the overall output of the circuit and lets you cut or boost the signal. The level control of this version has been modified (corrected) from the original wiring of the #75 unit, giving this pedal much more volume on tap. The Gain control adjusts the amount of gain inside the overdrive circuit. Turning up “Gain” creates more clipping as it pushes the op-amp and hard clipping into overdrive. We’ve also added a slider switch to this production version, which wasn’t included with the original DOD 250. While researching the #75 “Big Box” pedal, I acquired a second early big-box unit which used a completely different clipping arrangement. It only seemed fair to offer this switch so that you could explore these two variations for yourself.

This “Big Box V1” DOD 250 circuit definitely feels like a 250, but with a few changes: more gain/grit overall and more unique low/mids. This is a must-have addition to any DOD collector’s lineup, or for anyone who's curious about how it all started.

Imagine having up to 4 different versions of this controller - each tailored for specific tasks within your production workflow - that you can switch between in seconds.

Another useful application for the layers are for large production rooms where many engineers share the controller. Now, each could tailor their own preset that suits them perfectly. Or in the case where an external producer or director sometimes attends mixing or tracking sessions. Then you could add more MOMs to the room and assign different 'user roles'. Not everyone has to be able to control the Master Volume.

MOM is a remote control for the Pro|Mon monitor profile in the DADman control software. It features 10 user-programmable keys, a rotary encoder and a GPI input for an external switch. You can assign almost any function in the monitor profile to any key on the MOM, making it easy to configure it for your specific needs. Further, MOM offers 4 layers of keys, offering a total of 40 programmable keys.

Weighing in at 2 lbs., the MOM is sturdy and will remain in place while also being compact enough to not take up valuable desk space. The rotary encoder for volume control has been carefully designed for superb tactile feel and features colored LEDs to indicate the volume setting in 0.5 dB steps.

While working perfectly fine in combination with the DADman software, its real power is revealed when used in combination with EUCON control surfaces such as the Avid Dock, S4, S6 or even the free Control app, as MOM-operation is synchronized with these units. Simply select e.g. a source on the Dock and the corresponding key on the MOM will light up, and vice versa, what you do on the MOM is also reflected on the Dock.

And not only can you use MOM in combination with EUCON control surfaces, you can also use multiple MOMs on the same system. This can come in handy if you have multiple workspaces or listening positions, e.g. a sound engineer and a director position, as you can place the MOM wherever it is needed.

MOM also features a GPI input, which can be used for an external switch, e.g. a footswitch or a separate switch on the desk. The function of the GPI input can be programmed just like any of the keys.

You can power MOM either through PoE making the installation very easy, or from a supplied power adapter.

Made in Denmark, the MOM also features a sleek and stylish design that will look amazing in any studio.

Imagine having up to 4 different versions of this controller - each tailored for specific tasks within your production workflow - that you can switch between in seconds.

Another useful application for the layers are for large production rooms where many engineers share the controller. Now, each could tailor their own preset that suits them perfectly. Or in the case where an external producer or director sometimes attends mixing or tracking sessions. Then you could add more MOMs to the room and assign different 'user roles'.
