Gonna get this for xmas, or maybe a Waldorf Pulse 2 if the reviews about the Drumbrute remain steadily positive, already bought a Focusrite 18i8 so i can expand my analog arsenal. Super psyched about this drum machine, I mean face it off against DSI's Tempest, the control over the sound might be a lot more dynamic on the tempest but holy shit a analog drum machine under a 500$ that doesn't sound like complete shit like Korg Beats or Akai Rhythm Wolf, this guy really gives the Tempest a run for its money and at a lil less than quarter of the price.

off topic, i hate all the roland botique series.

oooooh, purdy

I really recommend the waldorf pulse or blofeld! I've used the original pulse and microwave and have really been eyeballing the pulse2 and blofeld... but if you wanna go drum amchine you can't go wrong with arturia. They undercut the competition's pricing for sure and the stuff is well made and sounds killer. Interestingly I think the mini-brute has a real sequential circuits quality to tis sound, so I wonder if the drumbrute will sound like an old drum-trax or maybe a little like the tmpest...

the only thing I would be concerned with is timing. Smith worked with Linn on the Tempest and its internal sequencer and timing in response to MIDI is therefore incredible like the Linn Drum and early MPCs Linn worked on.... I can promise you the arturia will be a little more sloppy like a 909 or DMX

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

yea I'm gonna get the pulse 2 instead... just re-arranged my setup for it.

figure it'd be good to have a 3 osc synth n another synth tht works really well on low ends which the original pulse has a reputation for and seems like the pulse 2 as well, and paraphonic mode is a big plus. 500 presets right out the box will be able to easily find a starting point for a sound. plus a choice of 3 different third party vst editors.

the drumbrute would be nice if I was using a large analog mixer (I like to do a lotta individual processing on sounds.)

i had my eyes on this guy too

most of the volca series besides the FM sound like toys, but this new guy seems pretty powerful.

Waldorf stuff rocks, period.

I haven't tried the Volca FM yet but have high hopes for it.... I'm on my 2nd Volca Bass. Sold my 1st one because it was a 'toy' and then regretted it and bought another one and now I get it. I don't care for the Keys though. The Drum machine doesn't have individual outs making it utterly worthless to me. The kick is a nice alternative to the Joemox....

I'm kinda cooling it on synth purchasing for a while I think.... though I am tepted by Volca FM and the Korg Minilogue. The monosynths are really taking over my little studio and I think I'm due for a poly. I only have 1 polyphonic analog left and it doesn't have any knobs and sliders to fuck with.

you have a Minitaur, right? have you had it up against a Model D and a Phatty? Is it really dirtier and thicker like the old Taurus was reputed to be (never seen a real Taurus) or is it just same old same old? My SE1 and Sub Phatty are different enough that I can justify having both, but I'm not sure I can justify a Minitaur even though I kinda wanna see what its all about.
