Beginning to Dj

Hello! I'm 18 years old and want to star djing. I REALLY don't know where to start so I want to ask you guys if anyone knows a good way to begin ?

THANKS

Do you have any musical training? thatd help as well as what you'd like to play,

context needed...

it doesn't hurt to be a rabid music fan with an encyclopedic knowledge of everything that's been recorded since the birth of the 7" either

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Hi! Thank you for answering. No I don't have any musical training in any instrument. I'm willing to learn any of them if need be. Would you recommend any in specific ?

Sure. Experience playing is helpful tho not required- not from what I've seen.

Is this a gear question?

What kind of music do you wanna spin?

I'm old so I will always lean towards a couple of technics or stantons and a good mixer.... but there's a million other ways to go about it if you don't have an extensive vinyl collection or the coin to build one up.

I want to go ahead and make Kygo style music... Sort of chill

Gotcha- but just for clarity-

You said you wanted to make music in the style of Kygo...

So does that mean you're interest is in making music (procudcer) & DJing?

Or just one or the other?

Yeah, I am totally conused... producing music cna eb achieved with a small investment in ableton or fruityloops if your computer is up to it, however, producing quality music is a lifelong investment of time and a sinkhole of money into gadgettry (and these days additional software... you kdis don't know how good you've got it versus when me and Xaq were trying to record our first songs).

Tis true...

However, if you can let us know what you would like to do I can definitely offer some very inexpensive options for you. Some are even free.

In either case what kind of computer you're using would be helpful.

I had to look up Kygo and according to wikipedia this guy was barely out of diapers when I went to my first illegal warehouse party... wow.

anyway, say to yourself "I want to make the kind of chillin' house music that I like to lsiten to." Don't set out saying "I wanna be like Kygo." Even if you're Djing, which is mroe curatorial than truly creative? Be you, man. Or just be a fan if that's who you are. Its okay to just listen and dance.
