Dave Rossum reissues the SP1200

http://www.rossum-electro.com/products/sp-1200-renovation/

Legit hip hop enthusiasts rejoice!

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

“To mark this milestone, Dave Rossum (the co-founder of E-mu Systems) and the team at Rossum Electro-Music are creating an extremely limited number of “renovated” SP-1200s.“

“35th Anniversary SP-1200s are available directly from Rossum Electro-Music for US$7500.00.”

And…

“Because the number of 35th Anniversary SP-1200s built will be limited by the availability of original SP-1200s, that number is likely to be extremely small.”

I’m still hyped fo sho, but with the new joint out by Isla Instruments for WAY cheaper (heard they’ve been awesome w/ user requested updates, etc. too) & while I’m not even close to up to date I’m pretty sure a ton more features & customization.

I’m as old as the putting tape on a tape so I could record over a tape with a tape so I’m no less hyped to see this happen…

It’s just if anyone is looking to really make a move on an SP1200 & don’t need the “Grail Edition” SP, definitely check out Isla Instruments offering

My thoughts exactly. If your aim is to actually make beats, and not just hold an investment, you could get 5 Isla S2400s for that price, and the S2400 is a living, breathing thing with fresh development behind it, rave reviews from SP-experienced users and a bright future ahead.

I liked that Dave mentioned 'starting out' with this overpriced unit. The implication I took away from the press release was that a more practical follow up is in the works...
