Here's a really great series of articles on Neve history.

If you're ready to nerd out read these highly detailed articles starting with part1 the 'valve' years.

Parts 2 and 3 are really interesting, all anyone ever talks about in the 80 series are 1073/1084 and 1081, but there's a lot if interesting stuff before those world famous preamo/EQ modules.

So far, it's a way more compelling read than I would have guessed.

You're underselling it a bit.

Thanks!

Cool. I was hoping someone would appreciate this. I never knew anything about the less famous modules or even the routing despite having been involved in reassembling Phil Nicolo's 80 series when he moved studio4.

After years of hearing Bienhorn extol his rack of 1057 preamps that were used on soundgarden I was just curious when the switch to silicon transistors occured (turns out it was gradual) and bumped into this article and couldn't put it down. It's really interesting that this iconic company was a mom and pop operation for most of those iconic years.
