Are the mods still around?

Hi team. Anyone know if the mods are still around? The list in the add gear thread is getting waaaay long now and could use someone who can add stuff to help people out. I did use the contact form to let the owners know that it needs help but have not seen any response from that.

GEAR:
  • Fender Rumble 40 V3
  • Ibanez GSR255
  • Ibanez GRG7221QA

I'm not really available to fiddle with stuff anymore. I'm swamped with work and always feel behind. This is the first full day off I've given myself in months and it's only because I'm too tired from a 10 hour session in another city to do anything productive apart from make dinner for my kid. Sorry, but when I have more than an hour of free time lately I'm too frazzled for anything but tv... to the point that I would be happy to step down as a moderator because the current job is too intimidating for me being a single parent who has wound up freelancing in creative fields since the peak of the pandemic. It was great at first to get away from my day job but the current economic situation is making it less fun.

I also really think the current gear submission system was a bad idea and never made any bones about it. Sure the prank submissions like sex toys have stopped but at what cost? I suspect a lot of the mods are frustrated by it even if they appreciate why it was implemented (and there were really good reasons that I won't bring up unless the admins want to discuss them publicly). The moderation staff is a mix of working professionals and college students and knowing most of them pretty well I'm sure we all have a lot on our real life plates lately while the job has been made 10Ă—harder with the submission system. Like most forums our mods are volunteers but the responsibilities are different and have become daunting.

I'm only speaking for myself here in the previous 2 paragraphs while spitballing as to where we've all disappearedto. It's not an excuse, just a reason. I still love the admins, the other mods, many of the users and the core idea behind equipboard. Okay, my brain hurts. Peace.

No worries man. It's understandable. Is there any way to make it easier to add things? Whenever I try to add myself the reverb links always say they aren't formatted properly. I imagine there are other issues experienced by other users?

The "add gear" thread does seem to be a bit out of control, but I'm pretty sure it's not as simple as it seems. For some instruments, every minor variation seems to get a new request, for example a different colour is listed/requested as a new instrument in many cases.

There are also duplicates where the same equipment is listed twice, e.g. "Akai Professional MPD24 USB MIDI Pad Controller" and "Akai MPD 24" are referring to the same thing and both are listed here. Letting people just add anything they want would probably result in more duplicates.

There needs to be some sort of redirect entry that reserves the different names and redirects to the original, or "preferred" entry, to help prevent these duplicates.

Perhaps there is also a problem where some of the site income (perhaps a significant percentage?) comes from those links to reverb and sweetwater, so they don't want to let people add links to the site of the equipment manufacturer and other non-revenue earning sources if there is a "better" link.

If I knew how to edit the URL from those sites, I'd be fine using them but whenever I copy and paste the URL I get, it tells me that it won't work.

Not sure what the back end looks like, but Reverb links only use product pages which seems to cause a bit of a bottleneck. No idea how easy or difficult it would be to modify it to allow for listing links as well as product pages, but that would reduce the need to add products from some smaller companies. ex: I have a few GUPTech pedals (smaller company from Canada) that I requested to be added. They have listing pages on Reverb but not product pages, so I can't add them myself with the tool. The only caveat with that is that may cause an increase in duplicate listings.

  • Boss HM-2W Heavy Metal Waza Craft
  • Peavey Bandit 112 solo series

I think if they could make it possible though, then the addition of the ability to alert the mods to duplicates would be helpful as well.

Just wanted to check in on this as there's quite a backlog in the gear add request thread. I totally understand the time thing, people have lives/jobs/families/etc. Do you guys maybe need some help? Maybe a couple of members could act as temporary mods to go over the back log of gear, double-check for duplicates, etc. I wouldn't mind helping out for a couple of weeks to help clean that up a bit.

Yeah, some of my instruments and pedals are pretty rare ones, occasionally listed on Reverb but not in the right format... I think this is a common issue :/ I also posted 2 of my rare basses to the chat but no reply yet, the last mod reply I've seen there was a few months old
