Complex landscapes from simple sources.

What I like to do is to record an arp/riff/notes into a looper and effect that with echo/delay/reverb then loop that in another looper and mangle with the pitch. Then I push it through more delay/reverb and record that into a sampler where I further manipulate the pitch of source material. Some overdubs and more echo/delay/flanger/chorus/phaser/pitch shifter on top and you end up with endless soundscapes and caves of echo. How do you create complex soundscapes?

When I need beautiful, complex soundscapes, I just sample this person's music. :D

You made me laugh. I looked into it as a possible source for some neat samples myself. :-D

@monochrome Are you looking for a standalone box that does this ? You may want to look into granular synthesis because it sounds very close to what you're describing, but Im not sure there is one looping granular synthesis box that does everything you want.

There are plenty of granular synthesis plugins if you're using a DAW, for example Granulator for Ableton Live. For hardware: you may want to look at pedals like the Microcosm from Hologram. (Hainbach did a fantastic video on this pedal. There is the GR-1 Synthesizer from Tasty. In the Eurorack world, there are things like Clouds from Mutable Instruments.

I start with composition usually. I may also screw with the argon8 while writing on piano as it can do things.... you know, things. The sort of things you compose into not compose for.

Hey mate. I was busy. No, I am not looking for a box that does it but I am curious how other people achieve similar sounds. Granular synthesis is a killer. I am currently in love with Silo from Unfiltered Audio. In a phase of experimenting with what it can really do and how it will allow me to push the sounds further. Clouds is cool. I made a DIY version of that with additional functions. I am curious. How would you approach making complex soundscape?

I get your point totally. Are you liking the Argon 8? To me, it seems that it could yield interesting timbres and source sounds. I am currently looking for another synthesizer to use for analog abstraction. My post inspired me to play around. I was experimenting with my approach again after the Memory Man Deluxe came in and man... I don't quite comprehend it (nor the way this DSP is wired) but if you record something into it... let's say an arp... you completely let the sound soak and drench in the box and its fx and wiggle a little bit... then you play with it some more and add and add... https://soundcloud.com/mnchrme/concrete-vessel-raw.
