COVID-19 - How's everyone doing? Anyone playing more music?

raided the studio for more gear yesterday... new track coming. Really bonding with my old korg dw6k today.

I myself have produced two tracks since the lockdown started. One MIDI, and one sample based. Not happy with the second. Don't like sample based music.

Today, I'm tracking guitars, bass, and probably more MIDI, laying in some vocals. Hope to get some decent stuff done. Will have a new song finished by the end of the month. From there, I hope to be doing a song a month, or, if I'm exceedingly lucky, two a month.

TRYING to teach my daughter to play. But she ended up with the grandmother when the lockdown order came down, and we decided it was safer for her there since the wife's a frontliner. She uses the excuse of "my guitar is out of tune." So that's a good problem to have, mate!

I'm really glad to be home and not still in skilled nursing, your wife's a trooper. Its gotta be stressful with kids. My best friend's wife is head doctor of the busiest ER in center city Philly... somehow they're holding up okay. No one sick and keeping in good spirits.

How old is your duaghter? maybeshe's just too young for guitar. Digital pianos never go out of tune ;-) I've had my kid in lessons steady for 9months (had to take over myself when this shit hit the fan) and he was doing it less seriously since he was 4 but he had trouble sitting for a full formal lesson and we just worked on the absolute basics. He really loves it and he's been playing nonstop since the virus landed. Piano's a better first isntrument than guitar.Just a thought.

The wife isn't healthcare, she's foodprocessing, at one of the larger plants in our region. Normally I'd be right there with her, but the damage to my hands (from that job) precludes me from that (and makes playing a bit difficult).

The kid's in her tweens. The main issue is her ADHD (she gets that from me). We're working with it, she doesn't know it yet, but she's about to get an amp and pedal tuner, as well as a DS-1. Sometimes, it takes that little extra flavor to bring out the desire. We'd made a deal that if she learns to play by Christmas she may find a Dave Murray signature Strat somewhere (she's a huge Iron Maiden fan--literally her favorite band since she was 5, and Dave Murry is her hero).

As to piano vs. guitar, the piano lessons I had as a child nearly killed my love of music. They were droll, boring, and forced. It wasn't until I was 13, and my late girlfriend (rest her soul) talked me into learning bass that I started to take music seriously. Guitar came a couple years after that. Learning both was literally my dad showing me the scales, the chords (and on guitar, how to play Stairway), and saying "have fun." I've got my kid signed up on both Fender Play and on Justinguitar's free stuff, hoping something sticks. :D

A quick update (although noone has asked, but okay) - we are okay! Luckily, I live in a relatively isolated area and we have managed to have only 8 infected patients in our county and 0 deaths, which is wonderful. However, people are growing sick of the quarantine and are prone to illegal meetings and gatherings. Conspiracy theories are growing popular around here - I can't believe how many people think of coronavirus as a artificial virus grown in laboratories by Chinese/Russians/Americans, and that 5G caused it. Also, our politicians started talking nonsense - one of our more controversial politicians (he is heavily influenced by David Icke) said that it is absurd that we halted the whole economy because some pensioners are going to die. I managed to tell him to shut the fuck up, on which he responded that I can't bear with the truth. Ridiculous!

My strings are still holding and I went to a guy in a village who said that has some very old guitar, which turns out to be the 1996 Taylor 420! In my opinion, much better guitar than all of those Taylors I have tried at the Thomann back in 2019. It has that punchy tone and my my, if I wasn't a poor Arts student, I would have gotten my hands onto it...

8 or 9 cases? I'll trade with you! my suburb is mired in cases and while the body count isn't black death level, our nursing home patients aredropping like flies. Its sad. Nice find on the taylor, wipe it down! 96 was still during their golden era by the way.

The spouse was sent home by nurse from work. Heart issues. They've never had them before. They were given a COVID test. We are waiting results. We're quarantined until further notice. So in addition to the lockdown, we're now not even allowed out to get groceries, we've got to either have them delivered, or have a family member shop for us.

Their heart having issues suddenly concernes me. I am very worried about them. To the point of panic attack worry.

oh man, I hope that everything goes well :(

there is a proverb in regiolect of my county "Tre se držati, jer dok se držiš, sega bo!" - (You gotta hold on, because when you hold on, everything is going to be all right.)

all of my basic tracking is done, my buddy Kenny is working on guitar... I have one hell of a song coming.... on the eqipboard end of things I used and abused every piece of gear at my house on this! Its a ministry/NIN type song and I think its political. So far I think the first lyric will be "I can tell by the suit that you wear that you're the kind of man we shouldn't trust." And I think my chorus might go something like "lies! why won't you drink your bleach and die?" LOL

Hope everyone is well. Please tell me you and the wife are okay, Solusah!

Wife is still having the occasional heart flutter, but her COVID test came back negative. I on the other hand I'm under strict quarantine orders for another 9 days, to see if I develop symptoms (I likely won't, so no worries--just an excuse to stay home and make music as far as I'm concerned--I've got some good wine, some good scotch, and some good rum, too--so I'm perfectly happy).

Would have posted much sooner, but also had to literally reinstall Windows, and every single driver and piece of software I have--got stuck in a BSoD boot loop. Not 100% sure what went down, just know I don't care for it to happen again. Upshot is I now have 7TB of free harddrive space between my 4TB external and the new 3TB internal I installed for my sound libraries.

Will check out the song you posted a bit later today, Jimmarchi, right now the wife's asleep behind me, and if I'm doing a thing, it's going through my speakers.

That... Is a horrible situation. You've my sympathy!

And listenting to your track, I can absolutely hear the NIN influence. Little faster than Trent's stuff, but the vibe is right. The drums are tight, the bass is nice, and the arpeggiation works really well. Just needs a guitar solo. Because guitar solos make everything at least 20% more rock.
