Database Frustrations... Can we do something please?

Good evening. I had previously sent an e-mail and have not received any response, so I'm hoping to have better luck on the forums.

Can we please have community access to editing things like artist name changes and gear images?

It is incredibly frustrating to not be able to do this without a moderator, or worse, an admin. That is a pretty inefficient system and prevents those of us who want to contribute to the standardization and upkeep of a site like this from being useful. Other music cataloguing sites (Rateyourmusic, discogs) allow users to edit details on all items. I understand the desire to curb abuse, but I don't think this is the correct way to handle it. We already have to justify edits and submissions (which I assume are reviewed by mods), so why should we not be able to edit items, specially when we are the ones who make the mistake and want to correct it?

I really appreciate that you have opened a space for us music nerds and gear junkies to be able to congregate, but please don't hold the knowledge base of potential contributors back. Thank you for your time, and I hope that you will allow us to help you make the site the best music gear resource possible.

ignoring your suggestion for the moment until you get a response from Michael or Gchiaren I do wish to point out that we all have day jobs and many of us have spouses and/or kids, so we cna be a bit sluggish. I don't think anyone should be ciritical of that sicne this is, in essence, a labor of love. I think they have it breaking even so they're not spending on server space at this point but tis not liekt eh ads and the links to amazon are generating a pile of profit for anyone. No one is paying off their car loan or mortgage here.

Hi Jim, thanks for the reply.

It is exactly for the reasons that you mentioned (full time grad student and unpaid intern here!) that I am bringing this up. I understand that people have lives, and therefore should not be expected to dedicate all of their resources to a passion project/labor of love. With this understanding in mind, and the fact that this database is already open for community submissions, I see my suggestion (not the first to make it, I assume) as a solution to help both sides: site admins and community. I am attempting to reduce the load for you all, while reducing wait and frustrations for us.
