DEADPOOL - Red Band Trailer

Ahhhhhh. It's finally a reality. I've been waiting a long time to see this movie. It's difficult to make me smile and even more so to make me laugh out loud. This guy does both for me.

Warning - Red Band trailers have naughty words and interesting violence in them.

I hate to say it, but this might be the first Marvel movie I'm not at all excited about. Deadpool wasn't a comic I followed though, so maybe I just don't get it. The trailer seemed super corny to me, and not in a good Guardians of the Galaxy way.

Deadpool was a pretty cheesy character in X-Force, but he made a good foil to super-serious cable in the early 90s. I was out of the mainstream comics loop by the time he got his own series though. I like how his pre-deadpool weapon X program character qas presented in the 1st wolverine solo film. Of course they killed him off in a totally weird way in that film. I ahte how the X-films have huge continuity issues whenever Brian Singer isn't at the helm. Anyway, the clips in the trailer seem just as true as the beginning of the Wolverine movie was to the Deadpool comics persona I remember from my youth. I just can't imagine 2 hours of Deadpool solo story making for compelling viewing. I am glad to see Colossus in it though... and Jason Lee from Mallrats? Love that guy.

BLASPHEMY! Ugggghhh. I've got to fight through the stroke to type :)

Wolverine Origins made the poorest attempt ever at Deadpool. In fact, it's the reason for Deadpool getting his own movie. So many nerd rages swelled and the movie studios couldn't refuse it anymore. There were soooo many online petitions going out for it.

Deadpool is a loud mouth, foul mouthed, goofball murderer, who breaks the 4th wall habitually and has 3 voices of his personality that he speaks with. His powers are a higher healing factor than Wolverine, super agility, and because Lady Death hates his guts now he is unable to die "Because she doesn't want to have to see him again to pick him up for the afterlife" (Ex-Lovers). Nearly everything that comes out of his mouth is a joke. He has a device on his belt that allows short teleportation and like a Looney Tune, he is able to pull out large objects from seemingly nowhere otherwise known as "The Magic Satchel". In one series, he killed every Marvel character ever, including Wolverine, Carnage, Hulk, etc.

Baraka-Pool from Wolverine Origins had his mouth formed shut, shot lasers out of his eyes, teleported naturally, had swords in his arms (hense Baraka-Pool), and Ryan Reynolds was embarrassed with the end product of the character. He never died. At the end of the credits, his eyes open and his body is digging through rocks for the head.

Reynolds was a legitimate fan of Deadpool and helped with the crusade to bring the real Deadpool to the big screen. He also fought for years to make sure the film was Rated R. There is just no way a guy who beheads people at a whim, drops F bombs a couple of times an issue, and touches on nudity could be a PG-13 and still be true to the character. They were really worried about this film becoming like all the rest of the comic movies thus far and having characters that are the wrong age, sex, race, species, etc. This is looking to be the most and possibly only accurate comic film of all the comic films from the last 2 decades. It's the difference between a comic fan making a movie for comic fans vs a studio making a movie from a comic for 4 separate demographics.

I would not be surprised if this movie is sold out across the country the first couple of nights. Deadpool started out gaining popularity when they first put him up against Wolverine. He soon after got his own comic, started making cameos in animated films and video games, got his own video game (THAT ROCKED AND MADE ME PEE A LITTLE), and then collected a huge following on the internet.

I would prefer his movie is a stand alone film and not tied into the other mutant fox films but they have already released a trailer where deadpool asks you to go watch Fant4stic.

They've teamed him up with a few different people over the years. One of the most popular was Spider-Man. He drives anyone he's with crazy.

Colossus looked amazing and accurate. He's one of the many characters that were crapped on in the other films. The attention to detail in Deadpool looks intense.

Here's the trailer's trailer as well as the original leaked test footage that pushed fox into letting Reynold's get what he wanted. Also, the Extra April Fools announcement. The test footage is hard to find now. I think Fox payed to have it pulled since they re-wrote the scenes and used Reynolds instead of CGI.

I did not follow Marvel beyond the image split, so to me Deadpool was a hazy occasional guest villain in the x-books, no offense meant.

That is how I felt about Ant-Man, but I went to see it out of some sense of fanboy obligation. And when I say fanboy, I mean of all comics and superheroes in general, and for that matter, most Sci-Fi that gets green-lit to the silver screen ... unless of course we are talking about Maze Runner, Riddick, Jupiter Ascending, Ender's Game, etc. etc. .... anyway ...

THE POINT is that Ant-Man ended up being better than I had expected. I actually enjoyed it. I may not buy it, and I may not watch it again on TV (internet) for 8-10 years, but heck it wasn't that bad really. So ... I suspect Deadpool will be the same or better. In that I mean, it will be (1) better than we expect and (2) enjoyable even if you never read the comic (like me) and know nothing about the character (like me) and are only going to see it because it's Marvel (like me).

edit: thanks Boom for the correction. It's a 20thCentFox film not Marvel.

Actually, Deadpool is a 20th Century Fox film. Disney doesn't own the rights to Deadpool because he's considered a mutant. Though Disney and Fox are collaborating contractually to bring Spider-man and perhaps Wolverine to the Avengers, it is not the norm just yet. That's why the Deadpool trailer showed a couple of the X-Men in it.

I had vowed I would not watch another Marvel film after I saw Guardians of the Galaxy. The only thing that allowed me to reconsider is what I feel is Marvel's greatest project so far, Netflix's Daredevil series. I watched the show and felt that Marvel could really change gears based on how the show was written and filmed. I would love to see Thanos kill Iron Man, Cyclops, Vision, and Thor but the only way I think I would enjoy it is if it were done more like Daredevil and Amazing Spider-Man 2 and less like Toby McGuire Spider-man and the first Avengers.

Many consider one of Deadpool's funniest series' was when he was with Spider-Man all the time. Those two were a joke a bubble.

I like the both companies having to step up their games to compete with each other, but I would rather have Disney just buy all the rights to all prior Marvel content and finally start getting the universe merged.

Well, this may be blasphemous but I liked Guardians of the Galaxy. There were some things about it I would have changed, but I don't expect any movie to be perfect in every way. Overall I felt it was well acted, entertaining, good plot, well made (great special FX IMO).

But, I also enjoyed Green Lantern. It's possible I will never see a super hero / comic book movie that I don't like. That could just be my weakness. I'm OK with that. I have a hard time watching Spawn, but only because of the poor editing and CGI effects quality. Also, the dialogue was pretty weak.

Kick-Ass and Super are probably my most favorite of all-time "reality" super hero movies. I loved KA one, and I enjoyed KA2 almost as much. Super, with Rainn Wilson, is amazing if you've never seen it. I almost cried. And I laughed almost the whole time.

Super was the best film I saw the year it came out... when 'God' sends those tentacle to bore into his head.... aww man

what'd you guys think of the American Splendour film with Rainn as Toby?

I enjoyed Super. The Lantern series is my all time favorite in comics and the last time I watched the film, there were a lot of things that bothered me. It wasn't the worst though. I'd rather watch Green Lantern again than Green Hornet or Ghost Rider.

Never seen one you didnt like eh? :) How about Batman and Robin. Shoemaker batmans are depressingly bad. I've seen prisoners see that it's on TV and decide to go back in their cell and read.

:) wow that's pretty bad. Well it's not my favorite Batman, that's for sure. The one with Mr. Freeze scores even lower on my list. And all the scenes with Bruce Wayne (unmasked George and Val) are really hard to watch [for me]. BUT ... there are things about it that I liked. Mostly, it is Batman. I guess I have a broad spectrum of "like." So yes I like Batman and Robin but I don't love it. I barely ever watch it. I loved the Chris Nolan trilogy. My favorite Batman films to date. Totally different vibe than the Shoemaker films. But then again, if you look at the comics, each Batman film does a pretty good job of echoing the vibe of the comics. That is, there's an equally broad spectrum of Batman in the comics. Campy Batman, realistic Batman, detective Batman, over-the-top cliche Batman ... Tim Burton's Batman and Shoemaker's Batman and Nolan's Batman can all be found in the books.
