"Gear Pictures" tab for Pro's Profiles

i have an idea for the site

I'd be nice if every pro's profile would have a tab that people can add pictures of their studio

like have "Virtual Riot's Gear Pictures" or something like that next to the "Virtual Riot's Equipbment Board" tab...

And maybe make the pictures to be varified by other users like the gear

I think this is a GREAT idea. It's a little trickier in practice, however, and here's why -

So many of the proof/sources already are gear pictures. Here's an example of a sub I made to Lemaitre: http://equipboard.com/pros/lemaitre/gretsch-g6120-chet-atkins-hollowbody-electric-guitar

It would almost seem like we duplicate work if someone has to RE-submit that separately as a Lemaitre gear pic, when it's already there on the site as a proof/source pic. I'm certain the tech wizards at EB could find a way to pre-populate a ton of gear pics using existing proof photos. EB tech wizards can you confirm?

Then, we as a community can decide and verify (as geoxor said) if those are legitimate gear pics. I know sometimes I take a screenshot of a written article and use it as proof like so... that wouldn't exactly make for the best gear pic, so that one could be flagged or down-voted.

Curious to hear others weigh in on this.

I see your point but thats what the "Gear Pictures" is exactly for, im not talking about pictures of the person himself, im talking about pictures of their studio, of course its gonna have gear in there. I think that its fine

also you posted the actuall equipment, that has its own photo. the only gear photo is the actuall proof so...

(I might not have understood what you meant exactly probably lol xD)

this only makes sense for electronic musicians and artists who work partially or completely at home.... I cant remember the last time I had my home studio set up and really I prefer to make records in commercial facilities anymore so were I a pro this would not work for me.... this would be great for David Gilmour's houseboat studio or Tom Petty's rehearsal space studio, Dave Grohl? sure! but it wouldn't work so well for Neil Young....

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Well i think that for the people that it can work will just be it. i mean if it doesnt work for others its fine, there just would be no pictures.

Imo thats like saying "Person 1 has this Microphone" and "Person 2 Doesnt" i would still prefer to have that feature for people that can take advantage over it

Sorry let me clarify. In the Lemaitre example, I'm suggesting Equipboard should push a magic button that automatically makes a gear photos section based on existing submissions. So when they hit the magic button, Lemaitre's new Gear Pics section would automatically have in it these:

this one

and this one

and this one

I bet Equipboard can code up something to auto-populate the Gear Pics section with those, simply bc they're already on the site. They just need to be "copied" over into their own Gear Pics section.

Because if they don't do this, then users like you and me have to go resubmit those from scratch. That seems like work that can be avoided!

Does that make more sense?

yes that makes more sense but some submissions are based on where the artist used the item, like... its not an item that they have personally, for example virtual riot used the modular synth from his university (such as this one http://equipboard.com/pros/virtual-riot/doepfer-a-100-analog-modular-system)

So i dont think that theres a possible way to make the site copy accuratly the pictures over by itself

You're more looking at it from a detail oriented viewpoint, and that's fine, but there's a visual design aspect you've overlooked here too that has to do with uniform presentation of varied content. This is probably my art school training talking, LOL, but hey, you are who you are.

I personally like the clean and homogenous format of the pro pages (and am looking forward to when they CHANGE THE USER PAGES TO MATCH as promised) regardless of the artist's genre and this would change that a bit, but maybe you are right and I am wrong here and it would be killer.... I was more playing devil's advocate.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

it wouldnt change that much there will just be a third tab next to the other 2 and when you click that there will be the pictures (if thats gonna equipboard design it (if even))

its a little thing, sure, just sayin' that what's here is consistent and it works well for every artist assuming anyone has bothered to research and populate their board

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

this is a cool idea. I don't want to overcomplicate but there is a very nice use-case for guitarist equipboards here... pedalboard gallery! Almost all guitarists on EB have pedalboard pics used as proof. If we made a separate gear pictures section like geoxor suggested, and users could tag them with certain things like "pedalboard" then voila, we have a very legit "pedalboard of the stars" ... arguably the best one out there!

I love me some gear porn ;-D

huh, there ya go Starguitar! that'll work for most guys playing since the 90s or old guys who stayed in music but evolved with the times... even 80s guys had big racks (bad pun, sorry)

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

We do technically have this, but the admins have locked it for all the super-pros. I've always wondered how they added videos and images on the bottom of the page. Same goes for gear, the best have a video as a second image.

i dont think so because i sent the idea to equipboard and they said thats its a very good idea but they wanted me to post it here so they get more people's opinions

If people would put the source also, it would be a really cool idea.

yeah thats what i meant
