Gearpoints

Hi! Love this site. I have now linked my accounr to soundcloud and uploaded a profile picture. Are there more ways to earn gearpoints? I have now 245 points. Really want to get up to 300 to be able to help out with categories.

Thanks.

make submissions, wheter it be gear items, reviews or, msot importantly, sightings... but get 'em right, make your reviews informative and don't add duplicate items.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Cool. Thanks. I have added some new gear but did not get any points from that... Why is that?

  • Worldstick

did you review it?

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

yes,I did... I've added reviews on items and added them. I have reviewed other items as well without getting any points.

GEAR:
  • Ashbury AT-40 Tenor Guitar
  • Nord Stage 2 88-Key Stage Keyboard
  • Worldstick

huh

have you approved any sightings by other people? that always pops my gear IQ up a point

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Yeah. I get 5 points per sighting. So far thats the only way I am able to earn gearpoint it looks like. Not getting any for any other activity it seems...

GEAR:
  • Ashbury AT-40 Tenor Guitar
  • Nord Stage 2 88-Key Stage Keyboard
  • Worldstick

you should get 1 point for approving or denying someone else's sighting and I thought 1 point for a review

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Hmmm... Strange... Thanks for the input.

you appear to be up 10 points, you said you were at 245 when you psoted but I just realized you're now at 255

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Thats right. I tried to add spotted gear to artist two times, and got 5 for each of them, so that works. But not adding gear in general or reviewing...

huh, we need an admin here,,,, maybe you only get points for sightings, I never took the gear IQ too seriously sicne there are guys with huge IQ scores who just ask other people who and what they're looking at.... I can build a tube amp, that obviously makes my gear IQ way higher than most equipboard users' so what's in a number?

HEY MICHAEL???!!! explain the points... I feel certain I'vegotten points for reviewing items and approving other people's submissions....

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

haha, yeah. would be nice with an admin to clarify this.

just to test it I went and reviewed a speaker, no points.... and yet I coudl swear I used to get points from that, I mean, where did my 1800 odd gear points come from because I really haven't amde that many gear sightings.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Yes, Strange... ... ADMIN?

GEAR:
  • Ashbury AT-40 Tenor Guitar
  • Nord Stage 2 88-Key Stage Keyboard
  • Worldstick

all the sudden I have 3 more IQ points today

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

I find the easiest way to get more points is by steering away from the big names and go for an artist that's not as well known. Maybe bands that are moderately successful but haven't gone mainstream? There appears to be a lot of gear missing from these types of pages. Also, if you don't know where to start. Look for youtube videos of your chosen musician containing gear and try to find interviews that discuss their tools of trade. Even wikipedia can be useful sometimes but their info can be faulty or incomplete. Always research where their information is coming from and try your hands on the original documentation. When you're absolutely sure it's correct, you can offer that as your source.

Hmm, I find myself wondering how I ended up with my current 525 points. I got my first 100 from adding a profile picture and so far I've come up with 80 submissions. That's 100 + 400. Where did I get the remaining 25 points?

Thanks for sharing ????

Just trying to help but I guess you didn't need my advice. Good luck and all that.

Ah, looks like this page explains how the gearIQ points are distributed. That explains my extra 15 points. Mystery solved.
