How does one delete an item from thier collection?

I must be missing an obvious button?

You can delete items from your collection from your Equipboard. Here's an example:

is it possible to delete instruments that I've added to the board... when I've found them listed with a slightly different name?

If you've found the same item with slightly different names, but they are in fact the same thing, I'd request them to merged here: http://equipboard.com/duplicate_items/new

Once they're merged, the one that's kept will show on your Equipboard.
