How much of the item name is put into the item name?

I'm confused here.

My general rule of thumb is that when I add a pedal, I put in the item name field what appears to be the name of the product as printed on the pedal itself. Generally, these would be words printed in close proximity to each other that seem to form some kind of unity.

So in the case of https://equipboard.com/items/danelectro-back-talk-reverse-delay, it would be "Back Talk Reverse Delay" and in the case of https://equipboard.com/items/boss-rv-6-digital-reverb-effects-pedal--2 it would be "RV-6 Reverb", and with https://equipboard.com/items/danelectro-billionaire-bt-1-filthy-rich, it would be "Filthy Rich Tremolo".

However, in the case of https://equipboard.com/items/danelectro-dj-15-chicken-salad-vibrato, where the name on the enclosure is clearly "Chicken Salad Vibrato", a moderator removed the word "Vibrato", even though it is part of the pedal name. On the other hand, the same moderator did not change https://equipboard.com/items/danelectro-daddy-o-overdrive-pedal from "Daddy O Overdrive" to just "Daddy O" even though the word "Overdrive" does not appear anywhere on the enclosure.

A different moderator even changed https://equipboard.com/items/danelectro-dd-1-fab-tone-distortion-pedal--2 from "Fab Tone" to "Fab Tone Distortion Pedal". Once again, the word "Distortion" does not appear on the pedal, and I was told that the word "Pedal" is considered too verbose and should be avoided.

Consistency, anyone? So what should we add to the item name field?

Should https://equipboard.com/items/electro-harmonix-nano-pog-polyphonic-octave-generator-guitar-effects-pedal really be "Nano POG Polyphonic Octave Generator" when only "Nano POG" is printed on the pedal, and should https://equipboard.com/items/electro-harmonix-micro-pog be "Micro POG" when "Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator" is printed on the pedal?

Yeah, that's our fault.

Long story short, we've never made a hard rule about product naming. At the start of Equipboard, we didn't even have product categories, so including the category in the name was helpful. With the introduction of categorization, we've shied away from that convention to avoid redundancy. We also populated our database based on multiple other websites that all have different naming structures.

The default is what the manufacturer calls it on their website/product catalog. If the name contains one superfluous word its fine, Boss DD-3 Delay. But if it's Boss DD-3 Delay Effects Pedal, that name can be shortened.

If there is conflict between the manufacturer or various retailers, I would default to the longer or more complete name in the hopes that including it would help people find what they are looking for when searching Equipboard.

Should equipboard.com/items/electro-harmonix-nano-pog-polyphonic-octave-generator-guitar-effects-pedal really be "Nano POG Polyphonic Octave Generator" when only "Nano POG" is printed on the pedal, and should equipboard.com/items/electro-harmonix-micro-pog be "Micro POG" when "Micro POG Polyphonic Octave Generator" is printed on the pedal?

In my opinion, both of these should include "Polyphonic Octave Generator" because that is not a category, but that term is specific to Electro-Harmonix and would help people searching out the pedal on Equipboard (or new people who don't know what POG stands for). Both the Micro and Nano have it on their EHX official pages.

What I would like is some consistency among the moderators. It's annoying if I follow the example of one moderator who has added information to a pedal name, and then another moderator comes along and deletes everything again (or, as I said, one moderator who adds or deletes words from pedal names and it's impossible for me to figure out what's okay to add and what isn't). I'll gladly comply with any rules, but so far I'm being confused. It would be helpful if the people in charge agreed on what they are doing.
