Most important musical city in the world?

That WM list got me thinking, where is the most important city in the world for music, that music wouldn't be the same without? I'm saying Birmingham; today it's the arsehole of Britain's main cities, but, with Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, and Led Zep (Well John, and Robert), all from there metal, wouldn't be the same without it.

Bonn, Germany.... its where Beethoven was born

the man changed everything

I would have to say 200 years ago it was the entire Austrian-Hungarian, German area..

100 years ago it was Manhattan

80 years ago it was New Orleans

60 Years ago it was Nashville

50 years ago it was Las Angelas

Now, I think it's Austin, TX.

and 2000+ years ago it was Greece and coastal Turkey

Boom, you forgot Seattle (thanks, phone dude)

I'd say these days it's the Basements area. Specifically Parent's Basement.

Mississippi's Delta area? Because I like delta blues

I think its always been garages and basements around the world. That's where everyone is figuring it all out... mom's basement.

I'd say these days more than ever, due to the accessibility. Specifically with software vs hardware, but even with ''real'' instruments, these days there a lot of cheap options you can start off with. Wouldn't you say that years ago you had more people hanging around music shops, using the stuff there rather than having some at home?

to a certain extent.... there were certainly more kids playing shows and hanging at commercial recording studios when I was a kid due to a lack of quality, affordable home recording options.... I cut my teeth on cassette 4 track and even my 1st electronic work had to be mixed analog onto an early digital recorder or an old tascam 1/2" reel to reel. It was a different time. It was challenging to make your own records, that's for sure.
