Kick ass- happy to see you moved on something. Now we just gotta slap the emojis outta yer system.

I get it. Now quit it. Learning what makes you like what you like is gonna involve learning those chords & their relationships. Once you get a taste for it you won't ever wanna stop. Swear.

its true... everyone is always so resistant outside of jazz and classical, like knowledge is detrimental to creativity? I don't know where that comes from. Other art forms don't have that attitude.

I always wanna know more so i can do new and exciting things with authority and impunity.

Okay, so this took 2 second to find. I just googled the terms "Pop Song Music Theory Breakdown Video." It's that easy. Add your favorite song with some or all of those search terms you'll likely find what your after.

I've never heard the song discussed in the video so this isn't a nod to any particular song, just a nod to how fun it is understanding what the hell is going on in all the songs you love and using them in your own work.

Disclaimer: I only skimmed as I just don't have time at the moment but it looks fairly solid & similar to a lot of YouTube song breakdowns. If it sucks (let me know Jim) I'll find a better one when I've got more time later today. That and maybe if time allows Jim or I could breakdown the mechanics of your "song de jour" sometime

I'll never understand that. I compare it like this for those who scoff at the merits of understanding theory, arrangement, et cetera:

"If I lived in France, I'd like to be able to speak French, so since I really do live in music I wanna know the language of music"

I don't wanna be the musical equivilent of only knowing how to order a beer and ask where the bathroom is. Boring.

that's a great video, thanks...

https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/all-in-one-home-cinema-systems/bdv-n5200w I have these speakers in my home. Can I use them as monitors? What I did is I placed all the speaker in front and set the mode to 2.1 speakers.

I have never heard them but I would feel very safe saying no, these are not good speakers to use for monitoring. I would guess they might be the worst option actually.

You'd be much better off with headphones.

That is not because affordable monitors aren't out there the issue is the 5.1 and the way home theater systems are designed to work. Very exaggerated bass, etc.

I'm gonna get a pair of these for outside (long story) for example:

Mackie CR Series CR3 - 3" Creative Reference Multimedia Monitors (Pair) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KVEIY4E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_CMOxzb7V26HJ5

They won't be very good, but don't get the job done for my limited purposes & are only $99 bucks a pair. So that's one option. The other option is just a decent pair of home stereo speakers would be a better way to go. Pair as in only two speakers.

For more input on what kind of monitors to get I would recommend you read the article on this site. I believe it's called "Top Five Monitors".

There are several articles on Equipboard covering this and all sorts of other topics that offer very affordable solutions. If you've got no cash, I'd say repurpose some home stereo speakers if you have them or maybe hit a Goodwill if you don't.

Missed that you're using it in 2.1 but I stick with my recommendation anyway.

If you are completely without any other option then yes, use them it's better than nothing.

However, check your recordings in several other stereos – your car, headphones, etc. and listen for what works and what doesn't.

The monitors I currently use honestly kind of suck but, I know where they suck and have learned how to make them perform. You can (should) learn to do the same

hey, here's a track I mixed. Vocals & guitar were sung & recorded by one of my friend. Let me know how I did.

I think you meant to say 'jesus LOVES you', might wanna fix that, not everyone reading that title will know English is your second or third language

boss, lol 😂

it wouldhelp substantially if the guy and the girl singing could actually singt h parts at pitch and in time... I ahd to turn it off a little after the siinging started

piano is muddy, vocals have too much low end, doesn't matter though ebcause you need tog et some good vocal takes. The ix is irrelevant without a stellar vocal on a song that's all vocal driven like this

unless all fo teh suddent a pounding kick comes in all 4 on teh floor with some shrieking303 and maybe some moog bass or soemthing and I just didn't get to that part.... but yeah. look at the [iano, it could use some defintieion at 6k for the attack of the keys to cut ebtter and it soudns muddy around 350hz or so, make a peak in the lwoer mdis with an EQ and move it around between 250 and 1k until you find the mush, then slide it down tilits cutting 3dB or more and play with the width (Q) of the notch until it soudns even, clear but NOT hollow. Put a high pass on the piano too maybe, something around 20hz to get rid of any less than musical rumbling... steep Q maybe so it actually has a hint of boost in the bass above the fitler cutoff point.... delete those vocals, delete delete delete

yea actually the vocals was a rough take, they did it long time back just to get the feel of the song. I sent it to my friend after mixing, he also was not happy with the vocal part. I changed the piano to FL Keys Rhodes. To get the right atmosphere. still working on it.

I just realized something about the first post. The chords are wrong :)

I've heard 10,000 reasons before and never heard what I hear in that recording. The way you played it, it shared the exact same chords and order as Fukai Mori. I thought this would be amazing and I was about to add it to my stolen riffs thread but, the actual version from Redman is different.
