Novation Launchpad Performances

I would like to start getting into playing my own music on a Launchpad, and I have seen videos on YouTube but i'm not 100% clear on how it is done. I'm not referring to "Pop Culture" by Madeon, although i'm sure he uses similar techniques, but performances similar to: Xilent's Boss Wave or Nev Plays Louder, in which they play one song on the Launchpad. It isn't the light shows I am bothered about at this moment in time, however I would just like to know how you would set up the Launchpad and Ableton to work together. My best guess would be that you freeze and flatten parts of the song, then put them in a drum rack or in Ableton's session view. How accurate would that be? Thanks for anyone in advance who helps me :)

Nice one, thanks! I guess just putting the songs together in session view to play live takes a bit of time and thought, which I think I can handle :D
