Overflow of non-musical equipment

Hey, There is something that is quite annoying on the website, it's the overflow of non-musical equipment. Let me explain. When I first started lurking on the website, I saw that some artists had their Macbook referenced. But then, yeah, they do music on it, but the computer they use is only a very small detail, since an artist who use Ableton on a Macbook, if we replace the Macbook with a Thinkpad, Ableton will stay the same. But then, I saw (General) beside the name of the product. I thought that, yeah, if it's just the global model of the laptop, but NO, people are referencing tons of Macbook Pro, like wtf, no one cares that you have an M1, and not just a Macbook (General), we should create a Macbook (Thermalthrottler) for the next M*. But it's a joke, like wtf, the 5th best computer is a freaking iPhone 6!!! Who've made music on an iPhone 6? And it makes no sense. And the worst, is that the best ranked thinkpad is 190th!!! while (it is a factual information) Macbook are not well made, and when it's broken you get scam at the "Genius Bar", while Lenovo's Thinkpad (even more the P models), or HP's Probooks are aimed for professionals (even more when artists travels, a friend of mine has its Macbook screen broken because his father grabbed his computer by the screen (how fragile is it)) (BTW, if you see pictures of the inside of the international space station, it's full of Thinkpad, and not Macbook ;)). My guess is that musicians uses Macbooks, because musicians uses Macbooks (or just because it's fancy?). Probably the same people who had bought these musician network switch that were actually $60 TP-Link switches. So yeah, why is there a freaking iPhone 6 that is the 5th best computer ?

If you want to pick at different categories here, and inconsistencies within categories, you can do that all over the place. (As I sometimes do myself)

That said, computers, as a category, are not a high priority at EB. I suspect that's why this category isn't listed in much of the site navigation.

Think about this way: nobody is going to come to EB and decide what type of computer to buy based on something they read here... but they might decide to buy a guitar pedal or synth based on what they see on EB.

People do not make purchase decisions rationally, especially when it comes to what kind of computer they choose. In my personal experience, emotion, self-perception and the desire to be seen a certain way socially are much bigger drivers.

Just because one kind of computer is cheaper and more powerful, or one is used more in one kind of industry than another, that doesn't mean the people who choose that kind of computer are any less emotional or somehow more rational.

But as far as why the computer category has such a strange ranking, it's just not a high priority, from what I've seen. Like you said, you can make the same kind of music on pretty much any kind of computer these days, nobody cares.

Also, Apple computers are always easy to identify in a photo, they all look the same have big ol' light-up logos on them. Windows-based machines and Android-based phones are all over the place, and therefore harder to ID from a photo.

I agree that Thinkpads are great, though. I used a few different Thinkpads at a job I had years ago... tough as nails, really liked them.

Except for me. I'm hyper-rational... and sober. Very sober. Yeah.
