Product Page Redesign

As you may have noticed, we released a new redesign of the product page. What do you think?

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

My first impression was to zoom out the website, I feel that everything is too big.

GEAR:
  • Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork
  • Boss BD-2 Blues Driver
  • DSM & Humboldt Electronics Simplifier

I like the modernity of the redesign. This would be an awesome UI/UX to have throughout the site (e.g. loving the foldable sections).

Editing items doesn't feel as straightforward as before though (e.g. the only way I've found to edit photos is actually to click the "add/edit description" button). Not a fan of the redundant add/edit buttons for each section. I'd personally prefer a central add/edit button somewhere at the top part of the page like before.

Look forward to seeing how this all plays out! Again, liking the modernity of the redesign this first go-around =)

GEAR:
  • Steinberg Cubase
  • RME Babyface Pro
  • Mackie HR824mk2 Studio Monitor

Ngl, it's gonna take me a while to get used to the design. But I like that, finally, I can take a full look into the gear photos of a certain product.

GEAR:
  • Blank
  • Boss BF-3 Flanger
  • Meteoro Demolidor FWB-20

When I go to the product pages now I get signed out. I can’t add items to my equipboard anymore.

GEAR:
  • Day and Night Stratocaster
  • Fender ‘68 Custom Vibro Champ Reverb
  • Electro-Harmonix Op-Amp Big Muff Pi

Yeah, that's a good point! Now seeing I can't add items directly from the product page anymore. Have to go to my Equipboard & add items from there instead.

So that & not having an easy access edit button at the top part of the page are my two main gripes atm about the product page redesign. The old design really had these things nailed down. A shame these aspects of the design couldn't be incorporated into the current redesign =/

GEAR:
  • Steinberg Cubase
  • RME Babyface Pro
  • Mackie HR824mk2 Studio Monitor

I like the new look, but I feel alternatives or recommendations should be a different section from pairings, which is an excellent addition. That's the hardest adjustment for me since I post circuits I trace under there.

GEAR:
  • Fender Jason Isbell Custom Telecaster
  • Crowther Hot Cake
  • Rivera Chubster 40

First impressions:

  • The hero/above-fold section feels more focused and a bit cleaner, I like it. The various item photos load a lot faster now, huge improvement there.

  • The way the different affiliate prices are displayed is pretty clean and useful.

  • Everything after the affiliate prices feels like something I'd be unlikely to find my way to naturally... I don't have the attention span I used to. Either you give me a shortcut to it in the hero section (like Artists and Community Photos) or it's going to get 10% of the attention the other sections get. This isn't necessarily a problem, it's just an observation.

Noticeably absent:

  • The hamburger in the top left that opens the left nav panel is missing... are you guys thinking of getting rid of the lefthand panel in favor of that row of drop-down up top? Artist / Gear / Community?

  • We can't comment on other user's reviews anymore?

  • I'm sensing that the page edit experience is still in-progress? There are a few ways to invoke the old edit page from within the new design, but the old edit page doesn't really match up with the new experience very well. What will the final edit experience be?

  • Personally, I still want an "Add to Wishlist" button in the hero section. I want it in place of where the wishlist stats are featured in the hero section of the current design.

On Mobile:

  • First pass on mobile looked good, but I feel like the big "Shop from X Stores" button isn't really needed when your screen is at mobile widths, because all that button does is jump you down below the fold to the prices... also, there is already a sticky bottom bar on mobile that doubles the functionality of "Shop from X Stores" so this button is both redundant and eating valuable space at mobile widths... but if y'all just like the way it divides up the space on mobile, it's not the end of the world to leave it be.

GEAR:
  • Roland TR-808 Rhythm Composer
  • Roland SH-101
  • Roland TR-909 Rhythm Composer

Thanks for the feedback!

Can you tell me more about getting signed out? That sounds like a serious bug.

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

Not the person you were replying to, but I was having this issue on my laptop till I cleared out my cache/cookies. Didn't want to offer that as a solution unless I was sure it would work on other computing devices of mine (seeing the same solution worked for me on my phone). Hope that helps in any way!

GEAR:
  • Steinberg Cubase
  • RME Babyface Pro
  • Mackie HR824mk2 Studio Monitor

No review comments?

Otherwise I can get used to it. It's hard to judge it aesthetically until the whole site has been overhauled. It feels weird now but there's no context.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Yeah, I like the new re-design, but as iariass said, I think everything is a bit too zoomed-in.
Also, I think I need a bit of time to re-adapt to where all the information are placed (like I can't find the Edit button, so I click Edit the Description instead, and I can't find how to change an item in my saved gears).
Something else is the forced dark mode. I kinda prefer white mode for this website tbh.
Also, I think there should be a focus on the back-end than the front-end.
Great work though! :D

Thank you all so much for the thoughtful responses! I’m genuinely grateful that you took the time to share such detailed and helpful suggestions- it’s amazing!

Giulio and I released a few updates today that we hope will improve the product page experience. Here’s what’s new:

  • “Save” Feature: You can now quickly save items to your Equipboard directly from the product page.
  • Quick Edit Access: Logged-in users will see an edit button in the top section, so no more scrolling down to find it.
  • Streamlined Navigation: We’ve implemented breadcrumb navigation and removed some old category links to better utilize space.
  • Simplified Artist Usage Link: The dropdown for artist usage is gone, replaced with an anchor link that takes you directly to the section.

Additional updates to look out for:

  • Replies to gear reviews are on the way.
  • Dark/light mode selectors are now available in three locations: the gear dropdown menu, community dropdown menu, and footer.
  • We’ll be updating other site menus with this new style across pages to improve consistency and functionality.
  • A refreshed artist page experience is currently being designed and is coming soon!

That’s everything for now. Keep the feedback coming, and have a fantastic weekend filled with music!

Thanks for the update, Michael.

I'm wondering what is going on with the euro-pricing on these product pages?

https://imgur.com/a/2lS7l4q

So yeah, I'm in the nordics right now, and it's cool that Thomann is listed first, as this is probably my best option price-wise, but the price calcs to USD don't match up at all with what options I get if I follow those links to Thomann or Reverb. Even if I calculate and subtract VAT from these prices... they still aren't quite right.

Any ideas what is going on?

EDIT: I'm guessing that the prices I'm seeing in USD are the prices each API is returning, based on US customers only, and you're unable to get any additional info on what product listings and prices the outbound URLs redirect to when users are outside of the US?

Nvm, I thought I was being signed out because I couldn’t add the item from the product page. But it looks like it’s fixed now. Thanks.

We refresh Reverb data every 24 hours, and the pricing could be off if for instance the lowest priced listing sells (which it tends to do so quickly). VAT could also have much to do with the discrepancy.

Regarding Thomann, we only know what they tell us in their data feed. For the Boss CE-2W the most recent pricing data from them says $225 USD. If you convert that to Swedish Krona, then add 25% VAT, I think then you get to the price you're seeing on Thomann. So it looks like maybe VAT is what accounts for the difference.

I think they also just auto-redirect to sellers within the EU, if your cookie or IP confirms EU. I've had a hard time in general finding anything for sale in the US on Reverb while I'm here. I'll re-check later this week to see if that really cheap one went away, but suspect they're just giving you lowest price in USD globally, but re-directing folks in certain areas to sellers that are closer.

Sick! So you really are giving me the the price I'll end up paying after I collect my VAT refund at the airport. Nice :D

Maybe I should pick up a shiny new Gibson while I'm here -- this is me right now, legitimately using EB's price comparison tool to auto-calculate what my post-refund price on an SG Standard would be... very tempting differentials vs. US.
