Promoting Music

Let's be honest, Equipboard is very prominently based on musicians gear - especially Rock and Electronic music - and also plenty of members produce their own music too. I believe as a community we could do more to promote each other's music. I suggest Equipboard could also become a way of releasing music, similar to a record label, although money wouldn't have to be involved. Active Equidboard members could be "signed" in order to release music if that's what they want to do. It could be done directly through the website, although I would suggest a collective Soundcloud page or something alone those lines. Since we have a community, which is growing all the time, I believe we could have hidden talents, or artists like myself who don't know a thing about releasing music, and we could give them a chance to release their music to the world. It could be a platform for other labels and artists to find talent and bring them to the big stage. Equipboard could become some kind of "academy" I suppose. It's just an idea, I would like to know who would be interested, what everyone thinks about the idea, and any additional ideas or alternate approaches :)

I think Soundcloud would be cool and also the top producers voted highest could get some official videos, for Youtube if there is any who can produce them for musics. I wonder how we could get such people maybe from beginner to mid students from art schools? :)

Yes I agree, we could produce videos for music which is popular, as long as we can find someone to help with that, and we could use Soundcloud's spotlight feature to feature the artist too. I also realised that releasing our music as a community would fuel collaborations, remixes and other group projects. Thanks for the friendly and insightful reply, i'm glad you support the idea :)

Ironic, because on Sunday, I launched this little idea I had. We were gonna take beginner producers and basically mentor them as they took their first steps in their DAW, then our intermediate and advanced users could build up a community and get promoted on our soundcloud/twitter/facebook/google plus/webpage. Which seems like exactly what you were talking about. Its all skype based so we could be more connected. We already have 19 producers that are with us at the moment. A variety of beginner/intermediate/advanced/expert producers are part of it. Since we launched this not even a week ago, were of course still accepting people. All you have to do is fill out this application, then we'll review your music and put you in our group to chat with other musicians that have a similar skill to you. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OayRgw8p3Bkm14M2_5VFATJl4muNfK_lUiPlmEJTJhY/viewform

Haha that is quite ironic! Yes our ideas do seem very similar about promoting music as a community, although the teaching beginners aspect is different. I'd still like to see an official place for Equipboard users to publish their music collectively, maybe since you have experience you could help us, or perhaps if you are busy or loyal to your project, our ideas could collaborate in some way?

Haha experience. Id hardly call it an experience. However...What we could do is I could have a special soundcloud page. Kinda like how Spinnin Records owns Spinnin Deep. We could have something like that too. Upgraded Promotions/UP (My project) and whatever youd call your project. Then Equipboard has their own soundcloud page, and then they have UP promoting them too. Does that sound good? Or perhaps you could counter.

Just to make sure this is clear, I wouldnt be in charge or own your thing, but being under my name, youd grow with us. And it would help EquipBoard grow as well.

You've got more experience than me trust me! I'm just sat in my room making 'music' and putting it on soundcloud for my mates without a clue what I'm really doing :D Ok yeah that sounds good, so we're like two separate pages but kind of linked together and working together? I see that sounds good to me. Haha it may be my idea but I don't think I could run my project it would have to be done by the owners of Equipboard. I'm coming up to a busy time in school, and I have no connection to the actual website, I'm just a member and moderator :) But yes I don't expect you to run our project either, that's fine hopefully the creators of the website will see this and take it all in. And of course it helps everyone really we'd all grow :)

Exactly. Sounds good. :D If anybody wants to contact me about this, hit me up at either [email protected] or [email protected]. Im interested to see if this actually happens, and how well it would work. Totally down for this.

Couldn't agree more, let's hope the guys who run Equipboard as well as more of the members of the site are as enthusiastic as we are :D

Thanks for sharing your idea. I think it's great!

I've created a group for Equipboard on Soundcloud. Let's start with that and see how much interest there is from the community in sharing the sounds we're all making. It's a public group, so everyone please feel free to upload your tracks. If your Equipboard username isn't the same as your Soundcloud username, maybe add a comment or tag so people know who you are here.

I've added a short clip of my first time using the Intellijel Shapeshifter module. :)

This is exactly what I had in mind thank you :)

Great idea ! Just shared a remix. I look forward to the next steps.

Just shared my latest track :) glad to see this is being backed by everyone!

I figured we'd join in on your soundcloud group. Just added the "Media Robots" Continuous Mix EP by DeFeX of Chill Productions to the group, which is also a free download. Enjoy!

Oh, and about the top producers getting videos that was suggested: Payola (pay for plays) rules the day in the music business these days, from soundcloud to pandora / spotify and even iTunes. If you're going to rate the videos do NOT go by the amount of plays on track. You'll need a forum here to coincide with the soundcloud group where people on this site can rate the music. This is the only way to keep this practice fair for everyone, else the people who refuse to use Payola services (Like Chill Productions!) will never have a chance.
