Something that is wrong and it needs to be fixed

So, I've made this thread in order for you all to find things that aren't correct on this site. Sort of like, submissions, which could help here.

One thing that really bothered me was adding guitar speakers under effects. Those aren't effects, we could just simply write down under "Speakers".

Also, a lot of guitars, amps and pedals don't even have sources or have sources which aren't so valid as they should be. Example is Jack White's Gibson J-160E or Gretsch G6128TCG. http://equipboard.com/pros/jack-white

Also, fan sites can be, but don't necessarily have to be incorrect source, a lot of effects, guitars and amps have proof, but are denied just because are fan sites. I did that with Radiohead and Led Zeppelin, and those are correct sites, but get denied just because someone who loves those 2 bands explored it and gave it online is a fan.

I've been also looking for Jack White's equipboard, and it is correct, but one thing bothered me. Someone added this :

http://equipboard.com/pros/jack-white/gretsch-g5445t-electromatic-double-jet-w-bigsby-electric-guitar

And classified it as "customized", that is just Parsons Triple Jet, which was already submitted onto the Equipboard.

Some items are just classified under wrong artist, here is example with this Moog Model IIIP.

http://equipboard.com/pros/george-harrison/moog-model-iiip

It should go under Paul McCartney's property.

No need to caps, also, someone should correct all this stuff writen with all capital or all small letters. (do you call those small here?)

Just write down here everything you think it's just...wrong.

Also, Groundguitar is not a real source.

IMPORTANT : VIA EMAIL, Peter Holmström asked me to change his surname. It's Holstrom instead.

One thing that really bothered me was adding guitar speakers under effects. Those aren't effects, we could just simply write down under "Speakers".

Can you share an example? Guitar amps should go under this path:

Musical Instruments -> Instrument Accessories -> Guitar & Bass Accessories -> Amplifiers

Also, a lot of guitars, amps and pedals don't even have sources or have sources which aren't so valid as they should be. Example is Jack White's Gibson J-160E or Gretsch G6128TCG. http://equipboard.com/pros/jack-white

Yeah, that's a problem. A lot of those submissions were from very early days, some of them admittedly added by us. I think we need to either find sources for those and add them, or delete them if sources can't be found.

Fan sites are only unacceptable when they don't show clear proof of an artist using something. An example would be a site that simply lists a bunch of gear used by an artist, without showing anything else that clearly substantiates the gear was used by them. If the fan site shows pictures of someone playing a guitar, that picture could be used as the source and the fan site could be acknowledged in the submission notes.

If a submission is denied and you think it shouldn't have been, post it in the forum and lets start a dialog on why it should or shouldn't be denied.

I've deleted that one.

We'll get that moved over to Paul's Equipboard.

I've merged that with another submission for the same item. http://equipboard.com/items/boss-gt-6

Also, Groundguitar is not a real source.

I'd open this up for discussion in its own thread as well. In my opinion (I'm not a guitarist), it should probably be treated the same as a fan site. It looks like there are some accurate claims on the site, but those tend to reference other sources that should be used instead.

IMPORTANT : VIA EMAIL, Peter Holmström asked me to change his surname. It's Holstrom instead.

http://equipboard.com/pros/peter-holstrom

Just to be clear, should his name be changed to: Peter Holmström ?

That's right.

Speakers should have their own same path as amps, just instead of amps put speakers.

Groundguitar has no source or photo.

This should go under bass guitars section, not other section.

No one really fixed this Holstrom bug, and there is something that bothers me.

Why does one model get submitted while same models (buut different colours and pickups), can't be?

I've submitted more Telecasters for Billie Joe Armstrong, they all get pretty much denied. Just because there is 1 Telecaster. And he uses more Telecasters, just with different knob positions and others.

This "1 model" idea is dumb. Every guitar we saw him using, not just 1 model of one.

That’s a good point. I think the thought to date has been we don’t want different guitars listed for things that don’t necessarily matter. What I mean by that is that the color doesn’t affect tone, so we don’t want to have a different color variation for every guitar, since then we would lose a lot of connections we find interesting. For example, if Keef’s tele is a blonde finish, and Brad Paisley is playing a sunburst one, we still think it’s interesting having those connected, so you can see they both play the same model tele. However, not all tele’s are created equal, so if someone plays a ’72 telecaster deluxe versus a telecaster custom versus a standard telecaster, that is interesting information that certainly affects tone and should be noted, especially if an artist prefers a certain tone/knob positions on one guitar and a different settings on another. That’s incredibly interesting to me!

Anyway, right now we’ve taken the stance of if it affects tone (different model, wood, pickups, etc) it should be noted, and if it is just an aesthetic change like color it should be consolidated under one model.

What do you think? I’d love to know what is best for everybody, since this is a question that is somewhat hard to answer. Thanks!

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

Take a look at Billie Joe Armstrong's submissions. A lot of Teles standard, Teles custom, but none of it is admitted just because someone submitred one tele. Same story with Sg's on his board.
