The writer is blocked.

By blocked, I mean like stuck in Don Valley Parkway traffic caused by a roadblock and he just got on the exit twenty miles away from the accident. how do i make him write again?

EDIT: keyboard not fucking working

What?

im having a hard time forcing the artistic douchebag in my head to write coherent music

then don't force him... and wait. Forced songs suck. Where's the fire? Is David Geffen breathing down your neck, witholding your royalties because the record's late? Spring is in the air, forget about music, buy a case of beer and gather up some friends for a game of drunken wiffle ball or something.

True, but I feel really bad because I live on being creative, pretty much. It's my outlet, and I ave a lot to say that isnt being said. Im leaving too much to simmer

me too, but I didn't write a note for like 4 years at one point... do something else creative that uses another part of your brain like cooking sunday dinner without a recipe, painting a picture or writing an essay about cheese, whatever's on your mind right now that will scratch teh itch a little. Music? it'll happen when it happens. Unless you like filler tracks and sophmore albums, then force it.

we lvie in America in teh age of facebook and twitter where everyone is saying too much all the time, if you think you're going to be profound then wait, otherwise you'll get a twitter-level song

Responding to OP.

Open a magazine or newspaper. Do not read anything, but look at the first image you see. Write a song about it or too it.

This is a simple technique used to activate your brain. Do this twice the first day, three times on the second day and five times on the third.

This should have you reset and energised to write.

Yes. I did. We ended up scrapping like five songs and it became an EP, but we did it!

Totally been there- it's not like it hasn't been said before but this always seems to help:

I start something, anything-a little bass line, a coulpe chord chages, any fragment of a thought I've been mulling over, etc but then commit to finishing it no matter how shit it might be. Just finish the song. By round 2 or 3 I'm usually cured. Some of my favorites got written this way. Some borrow the good bits from previous attempts but not necessarily.

for whatever that's worth

yeah, just knocking something out is easily the ebst way to get on track, the elss you do it the harder it is to develop an idea... I'll wait for an diea, but even if tis weak I'll do soemthing with it to keep those msucles from getting weak. I foud that when I stopped writing after I got amrried when i was ready to write agin I found it too be really arduous so I'll never do that again.
