my man at OK guitars has a rare red 335 in stock.... 1960 predates red becoming a production color..... awww man I wish I were wealthy:

he'll get at least $60k for it, can anyone spare maybe $75k so I can outbid all the podiatrists who are eyeballing it hoping to put it in a display case as an investment

Do you actually mean 75k! You could buy a house for that. If you have a sparer 75k to spend on a guitar, then I question what you're doing with your life, and why your such a sod that you'd keep it to yourself.

you couldn't buy a house on America's eastern seaboard for that (even with these depressed real estate values) unless it were in the hood and had recently been on fire

but yeah, $75k is a lot.... that's why I asked if someone will loan it to me, or better still give it to me.... I don't have THAT kind of money sitting in a drawer, but if I did.......

Can't you get a loan from a bank? I'd ask my dad on his knowledge, but he's asleep. He worked in real-estate, broker, now on loans.

I am just kidding dude. I don't need a loan for a $75k guitar when I need to buy a new car this year. That's more than I make in a year! No sane bank would give me a loan for this purpose either. But if someone wants to make a donation.....

I just wanted to humorously draw people's attention to an awesome and rare guitar from the end of the golden age of electrics. You never see a red 335 of this vintage. I think there are less than 10 known to exist. I mean, did you see her? Real red dot necks are so unusual and the red has that lovely watermelon fade from UV exposure. Maybe it looks like nothing special to someone who is not an old guitar afficianado, but its special.

Anyway, if I wanted to buy a vintage 335 from OK I would go with this refinished 59 hes got for under $20k. Its a possible refin and a neck replacement, but it all appears to be factory work from Kalamazoo. Devalues an otherwise expensive old axe without effecting its tone and playability. If you're not a collector you have to look at the ugly ducklings.... maybe next year... or the year after. One day I'll find that 64 or earlier 335 I can afford and then? til death do us part.... or maybe a 345 with a varitone converted to mono, that's a great axe too, but not too expensive.

It's still £50k. That's twice the average English income.

can you really put a price on great tone?

wait, I guess you can! its worth double the average income of a British subject!

Another reason why you should come over here. If 50k won't buy you a house in a America albeit cheap or not, prices must be huge.

my mother in law's house (a smallish size place in an okay neighborhood with an average yard) cost her a good $300k, its devalued since our economic meltdown, but is still worth quite a bit more than a rare, red 335 from 1960...

keep in mind that we live between 2 of the largest cities in America right near the east coast, a VERY desireable patch of real estate (my rent in Philly was sky high, but I was right next to the art museum and had a great view, etc.... my ex worked in NYC for a bit but ahd to live across the river in NJ becaue the rent was too high for anyone but stock brokers) ... if I wanted to move to the Midwest the real-estate prices are low but so are salaries and so are the cultural and educational horizons for my son... think if the eastern seaboard of the USA as being like the London metropolitan area.... its where the big wheels turn and you pay to live there

You could buy a 3 bedroom in a nice middle class neighbourhood for that here. ($300k=£200k)

that's what my mother in law has.... I would call that an average piece of real eastate outside the city limits.... if you are not going to OWN 2 or 3 bedrooms in a good school district why move out of the city permanently?

I am seriously thinking of moving back to the city after my divorce and custody matters are settled.

Sounds like divorcing is a lot trickier than I thought before joining equipboard.

I hung in a lot longer than was good for my mental health and happiness because I knew a separation was going to be hard on my son and that it would make my life really complicated for at least a year. When it first crossed my mind to head for the hills before the pregnancy I should have trusted my gut, but failing that I shoulda insisted on the trial separation I wanted after Lu was born. If I had stuck to my guns things may have worked out. We both needed time to think things over alone before it became too acrimonious.

Be cautious in bands and love. If a relationship of either type seems to be a match made in heaven it is probably too good to be true.

Heh.. I'd still ask my dad just for the sake of looking at a more vinta- wait asecond.\

Wait, who's that in your profile picture? That looks a lot different from the other picture of you.

I am not making a crazy face in a selfie in this one.... that's me alright, like I normally look when I am not being a goof for my son's amusement

It's like your normal and goofie selves are two different people. Kind of surprising. Good to know.

Far from it, you look like one of those dads that would hear his son saying "Hey dad, I'm hungry", to which you would reply, "Hi hungry, I'm dad!"

I was quoting someone who tried to insult me once. I kinda took it as a compliment at the time and have been repeating it ever since.

I have never said that... but maybe I will now that you mentioned it. Its just the sort of thing I WOULD say to my son, but I actually take feeding the kid really seriously both from a nutritional and fun standpoint.

Although Lucian would generally phrase his request for food more like this.... "Daddy, up!" I pick him up. "Going this way!" I take him to the kitchen where he's pointing and he violently jerks the the fridge open and peers around as if there's something he'll eat right out of there with no preparation involved. Then he'll go, "hmmmm, want pancakes." Even at like 7pm. Then I go, "That's just weird, dude. Its not breakfast anymore. Plus you had pancakes for breakfast. Can't I interest you in some...."

you get the idea

somewhere during this exchange he might inform me that its still early and that its DEFINITELY "not bedtime. No night night!"
