Fender Baja

So i was looking at alternatives to the Classic Series 60's tele if i cant find one and im between the 60's Baja and Am Special, i know how the Am Special is a budget beast but has had issues with a thin/weak finish.

as for the baja ive seen people say the s1 switch kinda saps tone from the pick ups, and i was wondering if any one has rewired it without the s1 switch. i like how the baja has a modern shape neck but still has vintage style pick ups and hardware. im just not a fan of the s1 switch, not something id hav use for

after tele i think im gonna go gibson but we'll see

I have a blonde 50s baja... I like it for the msot part, pretty much on par with a moddified 52 AVRI to me. i am sure the 60s Baja is also plenty cool. Mine has a surprisingly nice sounding neck pikcup and the bridge isn't terrible stock. Wiring's great stock, nice all arounder.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

ive been looking into them a bit more seriously and if i get a baja i want to get the 60's in burst and bigsby it

don't bigsby it, you really don't want a bigsby tele, I ahd one.... it throws the whole guitar off even setup perfectly. A tele is just not meant to have vibrato... even a factorys tock bigsby upgrade tends to murder the sustaine ven more than a toploader.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

but i love bigsbys :(

me too, not good on a tele.... my paisley tele ahd one, just no.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

idk, the american elite w/ cherry burst can get one n sound gr8

i cant afford an american elite but if i did im getting itin mystic black no exceptions

back on topic would you reccomend removing s1 switching

my baja doesn't have S1, tis older, ahs a 4 way switch that's series in position 4

but I don't see anything wrong with S1 its like a push-pull pot and shouldn't effect the stock sounds.... I love series wiring and wired up my strat to do series sounds not long ago. Its got a zillion switches.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

im just not sure ive never liked tele's with tons of frills beyond a bigsby, like the most modded tele i like is the cabronita and that has a pick up selector and volume knob with two fidelitrons, other than that i like my tele's simple

I wuld describe the baja as a 52AVRI with modern wiring, its great actually as stock wring is lame as shit

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

so id imagine the 60's would be close to the 64/62 avri tele's, i know the 60's tele is pretty similar to the 64 avri minus the wiring and steel instead of brass saddle

if its close to a 64 don't bther, you want the late 59 to 63 stype specs, trust me... slab rosewood fretbaord is jst better in some unidentifiable way... okay, I am quibbling, but the older spec alder/steel saddle/ rosewood teles just seem better to me

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

i love the 64 avri its my favorite fender in production the pick ups have a good contrast and the 7.25 board still feels chunky enough that im not slipping on my hi e string
