(Finally Sort of) got a GIg

I need it to be something for everyone it can AC/DC to The White Stripes just has to be something people will like. Its a solo gig

nothing more intimidating than the solo show.... think about more pop music, your bands are all about the interaction of musicians and the songs don't stand up well without the band

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Forgot to say other musicians may be there and i may join one of them. I'm 99.9% certain there will be no drums but I think they'll be other guitarist and musicians

Rock Songs everyone seems to like

Don't Stop Believin'

Landslide

Bohemian Rhapsody

Livin' on a Prayer

Tribute - Tenacious D ;)

a lot of annoying tunes other than Bohemian Rhapsody which is a bear for a novice to translate to guitar

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Yeah, but bar goers always seem to pop when they hear these.

At least jump somebody on that Cajon... Any percussive will help!

Get them a metronome app and a set of headphones or earbuds, agree to a tempo and have them beat along to that.

GEAR:
  • Fender MIJ Jazzmaster JM62
  • Epiphone Dot
  • Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Big Muff Pi V7C

Shockingly, Journey don't get much of a following outside of the States.

I would think Asian countries would pop real big

if it were me (and I used to do little shows like this in my late teens back when I imagined I was a passable singer) I would do a really mixed set from all eras, something like this:

something recent everyone can sing along to

a famous Beatles ballad

a more recent top 40 non-guitar hit (when I was a kid I went for stuff like later Madonna, Cher or even Duran Duran LOL)

a Joy Division tune, dead souls always goes over well, everyone knows

an old standard, maybe something by Cole Porter or Irving Berlin

a classic Blues number, anything from Clapton Unplugged goes over well

a Zep ballad

Behind Blue Eyes by the Who

an Eagles or Jackson Brown song

something country inflected but good like Townes Van Zandt's Poncho and Lefty

a Depeche Mode tune (Enjoy the Silence is crowd pleaser on acoustic)

a Cure or U2 song everyone knows (just like heaven or new years day maybe)

A Band tune (the weight is the crowd favorite though not the most fun to play)

a Kinks ballad or a Zombies tune

Wild Horses or Angie, 'nuff said

Something Motown or Stax, even Mustang Sally will work here...

a Rascals or Turtles tune

another recent pop hit, really consider going cheesey if you can make it your own, people love that

a famous, big production number you can ull off acoustic, Bohemian Rhapsody, Live and Let Die

a recent rock tune as your closer, you could go white stripes or black keys here

regardless, Angus.... best of luck, I hope you get some applause, have a good time, drink free beer and maybe score after the show

speaking of which, I could go for a beer.....

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Thanks everyone great advice and the legal drinking limit is 18 but i use my brothers id but I'm considering playing Purple Haze, Smells like Teen Spirit, Polly by Nirvana, American Idiot, and Seven Nation Army or maybe Fell in Love with a Girl by white Stripes as they are popular and appreciated also I have passed my GCSE's in music A*

a decent selectrion, throw in some odler stuff that everyone from every generation knows knows.... there's tuff I like on my lsit but I left off a perennial bar gig favorite, 'Brown Eyed Girl' Them/Van Morrison.... easy to play, loved by everyone, and Van is Irish and soa re you

I wish I had a brother for this purpose...

Good Choices!

When considering covers, think of an artist you like, then choose the one song that the public... the people who say "I don't know... all like all types of music...hee hee" could recognise.

Maybe throw in something like a Radiohead Creep, or a cranberries zombie. Slower paced, to break tempo, Foo fighters something common. Cure or the cult. And throw a mad guitar solo into All I want is you by U2. Totally own it.

Congrats on the Grades!!! good work!
