Gear Purchases

Oh, but you haven't tried the Tweed Pro yet! How are we to know this was a successful three-way transaction if you haven't even demo'd the Tweed?

well its not like I've never played through a narrow panel tweed pro or super (same amp, different speakers)... its very unlikely I won't like this clone unless its malfunctioning or something

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

I don't have immediate plans, but I've settled on when I do get another 6 string it'll be this: http://www.dawsons.co.uk/farida-ct-36-electric-guitar-see-through-red

I played one in a store, and it seemed to live up to its alleged versatility, and playability. Having two coil taps really means that you can get pretty much anything, bar some strat stuff, namely middle pup Clapton tones. The neck's pretty nice, yeah its bolt on, but I don't quite have the funds for a GOOD guitar, with a set neck, and it wasn't bad anyway. Plus its aestheticaly pleasing, and the guy from ASIWYFA uses it here, so it must be okay: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTl3QJun2TE

very attractive.... is that guy using BOTH those orange heads? If so, cool points to him. Stereo is really fun.

also, bolt-on is NOT A BAD THING, its just different... its cheaper because its less labor intensive than setting a neck or carving a neck thru, but inferior? no, not inferior in any way despite Gibson's 80s and 90s marketing hyperbole. If you want a Gibson, by all means get a Gibson. They are great. If you want a bolt-on get a decent Fender or maybe this Farida. THey will be great at doing the bolt-on sound.

tweedprotweedpro, narrowpaneltweedpro, poking at my friend to drop by with that Pro today! So many amps to own, so little time (and space)

see, if you want a vox, get an AC30..... if you want a 30 watt fender, get a tweed Pro.... one is not better than the other, they are just different (even though the vox is so much prettier), SAME THING as the set-neck versus bolt-on question.... pick your preference but admit that both can be great and that its nice to have both

For the price, that does look and sound the part of a well-made budget guitar. Looks like one of those types you find few and far between that outpace its price tag.

Duke, you have retailer you can go o to try this beast out?

I have made two wishlist acquisitions in the 2 weeks: the Xotic X1 Wah (delivered) and the Strymon Lex (en route). Taking the X1 for a test drive last night and digging in. Very nice. Sounds great. Having never had a wah other than the Line 6 FX100, I am really happy with this piece of gear. I've definitely got some playing around to do. ~m

GEAR:
  • Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe Electric Guitar
  • Roland Blues Cube Stage 60W
  • Blank slot

its a pretty big step up from 1s and 0s to a boutique wah

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Yup. No comparison. I have to give a nod to the FX100 has basically become my trail head on the path from interesting gear to really incredible gear. The X1 is pretty kick ass I must say. It definitely outshines the emulation of the Line 6. ~m

Any news on the Lex? I'm curious. Sounds like chorus effect, but much more swirly, I guess.

here's news on the pro... love it! pay me

I expected a but more, but okay then. To add to that, my manager got everythig sorted on her end, so I officially work now! I shall be barista for the next year or so!

I'll shoot you an email shortly and we can exchange all the personal details en masse. You'll have to excuse me, though. I still have no iterne since my dad fired our "guy" or whatever. I'll have to work our transaction in a library.

But hey! You get a Tweed Pro, I get a Vox AC4! We'll soon be very happy!

Done. We shall correspond personally an soon.

lemmee know when you are ready to pay me so I can pay off the Pro... my buddy just bought a d'angelico EXL-something-something to learn jazz on and he could really use the money I think

I'll box the AC4 this weekend and get a general shipping quote to LA

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

An archtop? Good for him! I was goin to say I can probably pay around 1500 hours or later, but perhaps I'll wait for your shippig quote? That way, I'll just pay for the amp and shipping together (unless you want the $500 as soon as possible, and shipping a few days late).

I suppose my email didn't go through?

maybe my spam box caught it... but yeah, we'll make the transaction next week dude, I am not in THAT big a rush.... I don't want to overcharge you for shipping by guessing... I will get her weighed in over the weekend and charge the actual cost. I can send you a paypal invoice on Monday and I'll ship it when the funds clear.

Jim, I'm wondering what your history of fuzz pedals through that Vox is like. I was just musing over what a fuzz through a bit of an AC4's dirt would sound like.

wooly or cutting depending... its a bright amp and does well with the fuzz face and 3 knob tonebenders

if you are talking about big muffs I don't care for them usually so YMMV

Fuzz faces... Maye a mini, not sure whether it was a silicon or germanium that I prefer. Very much noted, thank you.
