Guitar Stand for Playing Position

Like the MBrace/Gracie/K&M. Are those they only options? Are there cheaper alternatives? As I'm getting older, my instruments are getting heavier, and after playing around with my new Ibanez UB804 (on a stand), the idea of having a stand to put my heavier instruments on to alleviate back/shoulder pain, while also allowing me to have more'n a few instruments hooked up for performance sake just seems really appealing.

Course, the aforementioned brands are also not exactly easy on the wallet, but when you're a specialty product with no real competition, I guess you can charge an arm, leg, and the soul of the first born child.

I hope you're able to find something that works for you. Most things I see online are around $300, but I did find this https://carlingfordmusic.com.au/xtreme-gs653-performer-guitar-stand. I've never heard of this company, but they sell one for really cheap. However, I did estimated shipping to where I live, and it is about $150, so in the end that would only save about $60. In that case, I'd probably just get something from a company I know and trust.

If you're a handy person, there are videos online on building your own stand like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soieSyLG0sQ.

Best of luck to you in your search.

This is the type I've used for years:

Sweetwater has a decently large section of stands that may fit what you're looking for. Theres some A frames, for a bit more compact storage: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GtrStdSm--on-stage-stands-gs7462b-a-frame-guitar-stand

Or, if you're not a fan of the charming "black aluminum rods and foam" aesthetic, that theres this pricer A frame:

Here's a link to the full selection of stands avaliable. There's not too many, but hopefully something they have can help you out. https://www.sweetwater.com/c935--Guitar_Stands?ost=

I'm not talking about to hold the guitar while I'm not using it. That I have covered. I'm talking about to hold the guitar in a playing position while I play it, ala the Gracie/K&M/MBrace/Etc. So the guitar would be sat in the stand, at chest height or a little lower, at an angle such that I could walk up behind it and play it while it's on said stand. Was wondering if anyone OTHER than the three aforementioned companies made the stands, and their offerings are... pricy.

Either or, your Sweetwater link did show me that, nope, probably not outside the DIY solution that His_Royal_Sexiness suggested.

Which, HRS, I am fairly handy, and could probably word summat given time. Assuming my hands don't crap out on me (yay nerve damage). Bugger all this is turning into a thing, innit? Always does with me it seems.

I saw an acoustic mounted to a microphone stand at an STP (or spin off band, forget now) show so robert deleo could play his acoustic intros without taking his bass off. The item appeared to be some sort of commercially available mount (or if not it was made by a serious DIYer) but it was defintiely not your run of the mill mic stand, much sturdier than most stuff you see live, studio grade tripod stand.

Sorry, I didn't realize I posted the wrong video about building your own. That may have led to the confusion. That's very unfortunate about your nerve damage. Maybe you have a friend or know a local person who can build it for you then to keep your hands safe. And I know this isn't as cool an option, but have you considered getting a nice stage stool and sitting while playing? You can get stools for much cheaper, and it would take care of your body. I've even seen these wedge like things you can put on your lap so it keeps the neck tilted up too, so you wouldn't even have to worry about holding the guitar up in position.

(snipped for clutter)

That's exactly what I'm looking for. So far I've found three brands, all come at a premium. Which, I mean, I'll pay I suppose, if that's all there is.

HRS, don't worry about it. I've lived with the damage now for nearly 2 years. I've had multiple surgeries to correct it, and while it's not fixed the damage per se, I do have use of 9 of my 10 digits (back up from 7), medio is still... Well, I don't know I'll ever have full command of medio again. That's just a lost cause. As to the back pain and whatnot, part of that's nerve damage, part of that's fracturing my spine some years ago (mission of mercy, took a tumble during, fractured the L2 Lumbar. Still, wouldn't change a thing--meds were delivered, child was saved), part of it's re-damaging my spine quite recently (L5-S1 broad base disc bulge with central protrusion, it's possible I've herniated it).

In a nutshell, I've done some hard damage to my body over the years for various reasons, some worth it, some not so worth it (I've done all manner of relief work to different warzones (the worth it bits), and then as a teen I did my share of drugs, your share of drugs, and my spouse's share of drugs, too (the not so worth it)). You call the tune, you pay the piper.

As is, I mostly play sitting down. It's the only way I can really play these days. I'm hoping to get back to where I can stand a bit. That's why I like my UB804 so much, it's a standing instrument (and hella fun to play).

Anyroad, that's all I've got for now. Dealing with other health issues (that relief work I mentioned? Yeah, took malaria on one of those trips, just now getting over a relapse--I feel like death warmed over), need to lay down.

I think we're all on the same page as to what I'm looking for now. Thanks again for all the input and help!

Eh, as I said, you call the tune, you pay the Piper. It's life, I'm used to it. Keep playing the hand I'm dealt until I turn up Aces'n'Eights. So far Lady Luck has been kind in that regard, leastwise.

Well, looks of it I'll be going with the MBrace or building my own, as there just donae seem to be much out there. Building my own, could possibly fill the niche, and if I got my costs down, and it's effective, could maybe bring it to market myself one day.

Not bloody likely, but hey! 3D printing makes many things possible nowadays! :D
