Took some serious damage in a freak accident a couple of days ago. The spouse was cleaning, and moved the guitar from where it normally sits (a corner, in a gig bag when it's not being played--hadnae bought a hard case yet), leaning it against another wall. Our house is cooled by window AC units, rather old, rather clunky ones that should probably have been replaced 10 years ago. As such, they vibrate the walls quiet a bit.
I'm sure you've all seen where this is going.
The guitar vibrated enough to slide down the wall.
My wife slipped.
She fell on the Kay.

Now...
Now...
I'm certain any other acoustic would have broken to pieces. Literal kindling. The Kay did not. Unless you're up fairly close, you can't actually tell there's much damage. The back has some warping inward, and is separating from the sides around the entire upper bout with a crack that's a bit wider than hairline, but not so wide as you can fit a fingernail. Probably a wound 3rd width.
The neck is separating from the body at the heel, wide enough you can fit your thumbnail under it, and there are lots of halfmoon cracks in the finish along the neck joint all the way on both sides.
Outside that, there's chipping inside the body around one of the braces.
It took damage.
I'm taking it to a luthier today. I will likely pay more for repairs than the guitar is worth. Why? Because this guitar is worth more to me than the current value of my bank account.
Anyroad, I thought I'd check in with you lot and let you all know my main acoustic, my second favorite guitar was nearly firewood.
And gods it hurts. It hurts bad. It took me 15+ years to track this guitar down. So yeah.
Right. Gotta jet. Appointment with the luthier in a few hours, and gotta find a proper hard case for it that's not only Spouse Fall Proof, but goes so far as to be United Airlines Proof!
EDIT:
Thought I was taking it to the luthier today. Instead, I took myself to the ER for "acute renal damage." I personally didn't find anything cute about it. I can no longer void my bladder. Hopefully this is temporary, and I won't need to go on dialysis.
Luthier trip moved to tomorrow, or maybe Wednesday, depending on my health.
