Some people take the biscuit for being annoying

So I have just taken the cover off a guitar I got today to see that the kid who sold it to the pawn shop is a bit thick. I should take pictures tomorrow I think. So once I got inside to my amazment the kid had attempted to chanhe the wiring but obviously didn't know what he was doing. Melted wires, wires not actually soldered because the joints are so shitting and he had cut the jack leads and attempted to solder new cables to them. The pots are covered in mountains of solder too. So I plugged it in and to my surprise it works but in the middle position only the neck works and the tone pot despite hos attempt to wire it correctly does nothing. So I took the strings off, he tried tuning to D with 9s. I put 11s on but fuck he had killed half the saddles on the tremolo so I spent at least an hour taking them apart, cleaning putting them together trying to get the to work etc, finally managed it and it now plays very well and is intonated now but I need to rewire everything currently with decent parts.

I'm just curious how the "guitar guy" there could accept it without checking this stuff. He is a idiot though to be honest and doesn't seem to get this stuff despite claiming to be a fucking guitar tech. Jeez, least the guitar now plays well but sounds shit

Always fun undoing the "modifications" of previous owners. Good luck!

Pawn Shops have the least experienced people in the world working for them. The most I've ever seem done to check a guitar is plug it in and strum the strings. This USED to be a good thing because they wouldn't know ho wto price instruments and you could find a rare relic for pennies. NOW, they all have the internet to tell them what price to put on it.

It's been a fantasy of mine that I would buy a guitar or something only to find a diamond ring or a hidden family relic inside.

They did sell a tiedye strat their, one of those weird fender made in korea ones from I think the early 2000s for sod all, like £250, maybe less. apparently those are worth a fair bit these days. But I agree, the Ibanez isn't bad in anyway just a idiot has been inside, it plays great just don't sound great. I'll just get some bourns pots, a 3 ways switch and one of those EMG boost circuit things for a bit of fun

yeah, all the funky finish fenders are collectible, even the imports... I got hella good money for my floral MIJ tele even though it was NOTHING special other than the wild 60s paint job.

Pawn brokers are really hip to guitar and bass values where I live, but there are still good amp deals to be had if you are wiley. Other parts of the USA pawn brokers post on ebay but they are a bit confused about value. Some things they overprice grossly and others are just given away. My favorite guitar was bought from a Pawn guy. He sold me a rare 70s Greco fr under 500USD shipped and they regularly trade for a grand on ebay and reverb. Got me. But at the time he had acquired 2 and wanted to move them and there weren't any recent sales on ebay to reference. He also mistook the model of the one he sold me, which helped me. If he ahd checked G-Base and Reverb he woulda known better than to sell mine for less than $800 and the lesser one (wish I had bought both, grr) he woulda sold for at least $700... and yet he posted both for $500 with a best offer feature. Thanks duder!

Its a buyers' market right now though.
