Stupid question

i have a 2004 mim strat and i don't like the headstock logo with the serial numbers, would softly sanding off the logo and putting on the modern black large logo or vintage spaghetti leave any noticeable marks to the headstock

i don't really care if it hurts the value i bought it used and it already had a bullet back cover and i don't plan on selling it or anything its set up really well with a nice neck i just want to put 60's pups on it

It is just a decal covered with lacquer. It will come off, but the big question... how much do you look at it? An old band mate stole one of my guitars... I got it back, but he had scratched the headstock logo off with the tip of a screwdriver or a spiked file, left some nasty gouge marks. It sanded back ok, and I am looking at a local company who do custom logos as water decals to make this undeniably my guitar... as future theft protection.

But that is purely for my enjoyment, and to complete its circle.

The big question, will your audience care?

I have an old Teisco Bass, and the headstock has NO branding but there is a large skate sticker that simply says FUCT.

Hardly anyone notices that either... only people looking are gear nerds and they will get a laugh out of it.

i really want that.

if you dn't mind people assuming its stolen then by all means.... we see sanded off MIM serials all the time in the states.... sanded off by thieves to avoid Ebay or Pawn stores running the serial against the USA's master-guitar-theft lsit... you also see it on illegal copies, not so much sanded off but the copy decal a weird shape like they zerozed a real decal and just whited out the serial...

anyway, if tis bothering you and you don't want to sell it ever then sand it.... make it smoooooth

i mean, you could always make a new decal with the serial

That's a good point about keeping the serial number.

Both of mine have headstocks that bore no logo.

A replacement headstock logo is kind of like a cosmetic surgery to fix an area that is disfigured, but removing one to replace is like desexing a dog and then buying and installing a replacement for him to lick...

It is a great bass... gorgeous Jazzmaster/ jaguar body shape, pickups are thick but punchy!

3rd from left on my second gear porn pic.

My old bass player borrowed it (broke his) and he decided it needed to be completely covered in stickers and spray paint. It took 7 hrs to clean off the front (cheap paperback sticker layer was thankfully covering 98% of the face BEFORE he spraypainted). The back still has large areas where the spraypaint went on first and the removal is scratching and otherwise threatening the finish of body. He had even applied small stickers up the fretboard!

The switches and knobs needed to be painted red as he used an enamel paint on them that could not be removed from edges and the anodised pickguard needed to be painted (finished in gunmetal) as there was some discolouration and marking.

i don't know if i never will sell it but if i put the 60's pick ups in it then i wouldn't sell it anytime soon, i don'treally care for strats but this one just feels good, the neck is smooth but not slick and it holds tune really well even when doing a lot of tremolo picking, the pick ups are just a little too weak and i love fenders 60's pick ups, and if i did sell it id probably keep it local i have a few friends who told me they'd buy it when i told them i might sell it to get an american special tele(which didn't happen) and its already got some body were like a finish crack from hitting something and a small chip on the back of the headstock from my dogs knocking it over because i had it leaning against my amp

i thought about pulling the Van McCann and putting black masking tape over it and writing something stupid on it like his tele that says "why" over the squire logo, i don't really care about branding or what the audience sees i just like the older font logo's and the serial number to me just looks out of place its not a thing that is a huge issue i just was wondering how tough it would be to wet sand it off then put on a new and clear coat it a few times

i like the tape, but that's just skater ol' me.

yea i see that, i could put like 420 blaze it to really look pop punk

i see that as more meme culture, if you want a pop punk thing then just put KYS or something

rawr XD
