Trying to learn how to play the guitar.

Thanks to my job as a marine biologist, I’m currently stationed in Peru and have to stay for more than three years doing some research. My co-worker is a beautiful local whom I admire and have been flirting with for quite some time now. A mutual friend of ours suggested playing one of her favorite songs on the guitar and in an attempt to woo her, I’m trying to learn how to play the instrument. Aside from serenading her, are there other gestures that Lima women generally find impressive or can convey feelings of attraction? I really want to make her my girlfriend, but I’m too shy to try a more forthright approach.

I hate to break this too you but unless her favorite song is teen spirit or smoke on the water its gonna be a while before you can play for her especially if you are just now starting. it took me about 2-2.5 years to become a competent guitarist and that was when i was able to sit in my room and practice and watch videos for 4-5 hours a sitting 5-6 days a week. Also, learn to play for yourself, if you are not entirely devorted to learning an instrument youll become frustrated and give it up. it takes a lot of dedication and time to learn any instrument, guitar may be easier and more accessible than many instruments like violin or piano but it takes time and money like anything else in life.

I hope this doesnt come off as rude or anything i by no means wish to offend you or turn you away from learning/this site, but thats the sad truth of music

Well I've been wanting to learn for a while now. Wanting to do it for her is just an additional motivation to actually do it

guitar hasn't been a good way to impress women since the 70s, dude... that's not a good reason to learn music, but if you think you really want to make music because you'll enjoy doing so for its own sake? go buy a guitar and a chord book if you want to learn a few songs to start, then be patient while your fingers disobey you for 3 months to a year, then once they're obeying? buy some song books of bands you like... or you can actually LEARN MUSIC by fiddling with the guitar and taking piano lessons... but that's a whole other layer of the onion
