Using a Flanger Pedal and a Chorus Pedal at the same time

Does anyone know if this pedal combination is worth trying? Do you think that these two pedals are too similar to use at the same time? I really like both pedals and wanted to use two together (my plan is to get a Boss CE-2 Chorus and Boss BF-2 Flanger).

My problem is though that I've never heard how the two pedals sound when they're both on at the same time, so I don't know if it's worth doing.

it can be. I used to combine phase, flange and stereo chorus a lot. try getting 2 amps, running into the chorus and flanging one output and phasing the other. A good chorus to use is the Boss CE3 where both outputs are wet already.

my set-up was guitar---> mxr stereo chorus set medium to fast and light so its mainly a doubling effect like on a Boston album---> right side mutron flanger set even faster and with very little width to the LFO and then left side EHX smallstone set very slow both feeding blackface fenders set clean

its a very 80s stereo sound

It's a great combination and i use it a lot. If you want a preview of the results i suggest you to search on youtube for the EHX Stereo Electric mistress, it has both chorus and flanger and you can use then together as well.

yeah, the stereo mistress is a cool example of one way to combine these 2 similar effects

I use this combo often! I used to run a Boss BF-2 Flanger into a Roland Jazz Chorus to get some wonderfully coloured tones. I have recently added an H2O Chorus/ Echo (Visual Sound) to the board (for when I am not using the Roland).

Most modulation pedals can work together, just get the rates and resonances working together otherwise it can sound a little like a rinse cycle. This list can expand into Phasers, vibrato and tremolo.

Give it a try, if you don't like it, reversing the decision is only a stomp away.

a slow and heavy phase into a tube amp with choppy trem set to accent the groove of the song is a really great thing sometimes, try the EHX small stone into a an old supro or an AC10 -- in a pinch get yourself a catalinbread semaphore trem pedal or maybe their new valcoder trem/pre.... or light chorusing with swampy, fender bias-vary trem and spring reverb? oh yeah! Try out an Ibanez CS9 into a fender Princeton reverb with a Stratocaster or Gretsch, get making with the whammy/bigbsy on some open minor chords and prepare to be pleasantly surprised.
