What pedal completes you?

I’m sure none of you will understand, but earlier this week I impulsively ordered a new pedal…

I bought a Greer Amps Lightspeed. It arrived today, and if a pedal could be classified as “soul mate”, I think I’m officially spoken for.

I’ve seen so many Rig Rundowns and reviews that highlight or feature the Lightspeed and it’s all clear now. It’s an incredibly “musical overdrive” as I’ve heard it called, and the best way I can describe it is this: the second I turn this pedal on, my guitars wake up and reach the potential their mothers always knew they had in them, and it sounds…real…amps love it, other pedals love it, and you will love it.

Wampler Belle > JHS Morning Glory > Greer Lightspeed.

This drive stack (plus my Boss GE-7) makes me feel like I can conquer the world. So. Much. Fun.

What pedal hits you the same way? Completes your sound and brings you an unreasonable amount of joy.

GEAR:
  • Greer Amps Lightspeed Organic Overdrive
  • Origin Effects Magma '57
  • Martin DSS-17 Acoustic Guitar - Whiskey Sunset

Congrats! I haven't played one yet, but I've heard nothing but good things.

My must-have is a similar pedal. The EarthQuaker Devices Westwood. It not only brightens up my amp and adds some interest (I play a tweed Fender Champ), but the EQ really adds range to that amp.

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Westwood
  • Fender '57 Custom Champ
  • Fender American Original '50s Telecaster

I’ve heard great things about several Earthquaker pedals, including the Westwood. Glad you’ve found your X-factor pedal :)

My Boss FZ-2 octave fuzz for doom/stoner/etc. It's absolutely massive sounding, everything else sounds thin in comparison.

Edit: New pedal, new answer! I recently bought a Keely Moon Fuzz, and with a TS-9 in front of it it sounds absolutely amazing! Friendship ended with FZ-2, now Moon Fuzz is my best friend.

GEAR:
  • Orange Rockerverb 50 MkIII Amp Head
  • Keeley Moon Op Amp Fuzz
  • Gibson Les Paul Standard

Radial tonebone ABY I guess. I don't always run 2 amps but its nice to know I can without losing volume or creating a ground loop and the boost/mute switch is handy.

GEAR:
  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp

Picking between your children is always hard. But I've gotta go with my line6 DL-4. I'm not really sure how I got by without it before.

GEAR:
  • Line 6 DL4 Delay Modeler
  • TC Electronic Hall of Fame 2 Reverb
  • Blank slot

I can't live without the EP Booster...it absolutely improves the starting tone, I don't know, it's so simple but so perfect what it does...immediately afterwards, yes or yes I need a reverb on all the time...I had a lot of , currently the BOSS RV 6, but about to have a POLARA DIGITECH again. and obviously, a fan of overdrives...

GEAR:
  • Diamond Tremolo TRM-1
  • Catalinbread Karma Suture
  • Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT

and I also love delays...I have the analog memory man 550tt and the JHS pink panther digital, alone they are incredible and combined, the glory....

GEAR:
  • Diamond Tremolo TRM-1
  • Catalinbread Karma Suture
  • Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man 550-TT

Haven’t got enough pedals, yet. But I’ll say that my Fuhrmann Bluesman Tube Drive is currently the only pedal that I actively use.

GEAR:
  • Blank
  • Boss BF-3 Flanger
  • Meteoro Demolidor FWB-20

Maaaaan. I’ve for a Sunn Life pedal and that piece of Doom God Power completes anything from gut punching crunch to life changing doom for me

GEAR:
  • EarthQuaker Devices Sunn O))) Life Pedal V3 Octave Distortion + Booster
  • Ibanez Tube Screamer Mini
  • Blank slot

My Zoom MultiStomp (MS-50g) would be the last pedal I'd sell. It fills in for just about any pedal I might need.

tiny guitar; tiny amp; tiny pedal board - compact & complete.

GEAR:
  • Epiphone Casino Coupe
  • Pignose "Legendary" 7-100
  • Hohner Marine Band 1896 Diatonic Harmonica

HX Effects.

This stompbox were able to considerably reduce the weight I was carrying and the number of times I operated the pedals.

I managed without a dedicated Fuzz for years before I got a Boss FZ-1w. It cleans up so nice on the guitar volume I use it as an overdrive and just dig in for distortion. It's got a raggedy sag to it that I enjoy just a bit more than the Rat and Blues Driver clones I was combining before. Theres not a disappointing sound in it!

Gotta go a bit more boutique on my end and say that, for me, its a tie between the OBNE Sunlight and the Beautiful Noise When the Sun Explodes. They're sun weird and creative reverb pedals that just bring out something in the way I think and play. Plus, both can sometimes get out of control and take on a life unto themselves.

GEAR:
  • Vox AC15
  • Gibson ES 335 Studio Dirty Fingers Plus
  • Ernie Ball Power Slinky Guitar Strings (11-48)

Tough choice, I keep my pedalboard pretty compact, and all those pedals on it hold some significance. I'm going with the Zoom MS-70CDR (a similar pedal to the MS-50G that @mylittleeye mentioned, but with more focus on reverb, delay, chorus, and other modulation effects). That pedal alone is responsible for most of my reverb, chorus, and delay, as well as having some decent drives and amp models with the software, and some other useful things (compressors, boosters, EQ), saving me a lot of space on my board, not to mention a lot of cash.

GEAR:
  • Jolana Iris
  • Jolana Vikomt Bass
  • Positive Grid Spark

i usually have some kind of distortion on most of the time so... proco rat i guess

I can tell you play doom, we have a lot of the same gear! (Or at least the same taste in gear.)

haha absolutely man, valve amps and fuzz. cant go wrong

About 2 years ago now, I saw a video during a browse on YouTube of a new pedal- maker based out of Liverpool in the UK. This video was on a pedal called the Scran, made by Soundlad Liverpool. It's a overdrive/ Eq with a really natural, amp like distortion with a deep eq, thanks to the 6 bands of customisation. I've found I can easily eq out any unwanted muddyness out of a tone, or introduce warmth.

  • Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi
  • Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III
  • Fender Classic Player Baja Telecaster
