What's the best way to get into using VST's(I think is the term I'm looking for)??

Hello everyone, I have been wanting to get into Joey Sturgis Tones plug ins/Toneforge especially the Jason Richardson Toneforge that just came out as well as other VST(?) plug ins that are available but I am very new to this type of stuff and know pretty much nothing. So I was wanting to know where is the best place to start with getting into all of this and what are some important things that I need to know? I mainly want to use this stuff for practicing songs that I have been learning, getting the proper tones for those songs as well as getting tones I like for my own music then eventually move into recording. I haven't been able to find any YouTube tutorials or any online resources that have helped me at all with where I should start, what gear and software I need, etc. If any one can help me with this that would be awesome! I'm very sorry if I didn't explain this very well like I said I know nothing about this stuff and know nothing about getting into this stuff. Thank you to any one who helps answer these questions as well as providing any helpful information!

you need an audio interface with a high impedance 1/4" unbalanced input for instruments and a DAW that can host VST plugins, for safety look for one that handles VST2 and 3 in case some of your plugins are VST3 format only

edit:

and a computer of course

you know you can do this stuff on your phone or tablet with some pretty nie standalone apps assuming your devices are fast enough.... that wouldn't be VSTs (which are plugins for a host DAW), they are just standalone processors.... thing is, once you invest in all the peripherals if you are starting from scratch you coulda got a nice used tube amp.

  • Roland Juno-6
  • Gibson SG Standard
  • Vox AC30 Guitar Combo Amp
