charlesd's Music Gear Setup
I'm a professional voice actor, trained in Los Angeles by some of the top VO coaches and voice actors in the industry. I use two microphones, but my go-to mic for the big bucks is the FLEA 47, a tube condenser mic. It is an exact replica of the famous Neumann U47 that was Frank Sinatra's go-to mic. So, I thought, if it's good enough for Frank it's good enough for me. Unfortunately, Neumann dosn't make it anymore :( However, FLEA picked up the mantle and filled the void by making an EXACT replica of the now infamous U47. I bought mine at Vintage Kings in Los Angeles after weeks (literally) of demoing mics and doing my own comparisons. And, I am SO glad I got this mic!! The sound quality is superlative!!! For my voice (deep baritone) and the work I do (commercials, narrations, movie trailers, promos, animation) it is just AWESOME. You can listen to it in action on my website Red Door Voiceover. All the VIDEO demos on the second page were voiced with the FLEA 47. So, with NO reservations whatsoever, I can and do heartily recommend this mic for those seeking an extraordinary high quality microphone for the most professional sound possible. And, yes, for the BIG BUCKS :) Doug Lane Red Door Voiceover
