Open or Sealed? The Right Pot on The Right wah

Many things have been said about this eternal question: "wich pot is better for my wah pedal?". As usual, the answer is "it depends". If your pedal is designed for (i.e. it has by factory defaults) an open one (like mine), that COULD be your better choice. But open pots today tend to become scratchy really fast! Sealed pots last forever but, on the other hand, they will really change the "feeling" of your pedal, if it is not designed for them. I have solved this problem once for all, without changing pedal (because I love it!) but following Geoffrey Teese (from Real McCoy) advice: to "adjust" the feeling, solder a .10uF polyester capacitor in parallel with the .22uF one that goes to the pot and it will go LONG way better. It's true! My wah has re-gained the original nasal and honky sound it had before changing the second scratchy open pot - in less than one month! - to a sealed one very common in instruments stores. So come on, if you have a pedal that you like, apply this mod as it's reversible and not intrusive at all! Thanks to Paolo Pierelli of Point of View Records for doing this for me! Patrick Flabiano
