Honestly if I were given a lot of money and had to spend it on gear, I might buy one or two expensive and vintage things (a vintage mellotron, contrabss trombone, TR-808, other things like that), but I'd mostly buy a lot of cheap or normal stuff -- just lots of different types of instruments and gear. I'd also try to find some loophole to give a lot to charity. If I couldn't, my strategy would mostly be make music > sell music > make money > reinvest it all until I make enough to live comfortably, and then I'd start donating quite a bit. As for auction... perhaps one of my favorite artist's instruments. One of the Beatles' guitars?

I only own one synth but I love it to death: the Yamaha SY-2. I got it from my aunt who didn't play it any more, and it sounds so amazing.
