Another cool variation on a timeless guitar.
It's an American Telecaster with a double cut-out. I like it - maybe because its an American Telecaster, or maybe because I like Double Cut guitars. All of my other Telecasters are imports from one country or another. I prefer double-cuts because they (usually) give me better access to the entire neck. This one sort of does that, but the neck join isn't really any less in the way than a regular Telecaster. In truth, the set neck Telecasters have better neck access. But I still like this one and think it's cool. You may disagree and think its an abomination. I don't care. Beyond the extra cut-in, it is very much an American Telecaster and does not disappoint in playability or tone.
A Hidden Gem
I was lucky enough to find one of these used at a fantastic price. I think it was overlooked because it was purple and not the usual kind of guitar that people target. Some have dismissed these as being the early version of the Axis Super Sport. I don't care. It's an excellent guitar that plays like a dream and sounds wonderful. As an SSH, you can probably imagine the sounds it delivers. The neck is wonderful and the whammy is solid. Since I picked it up, I've looked all over to get information about it. That is hard to come by. Photos of it are hard to find. Mostly what I find is the Super Sport. I am glad I had the smarts to pick this one up. I will be surprised if I ever see one again. As usual, the set-up on it was unimpressive. After I got it home and put it to rights, it was fantastic. I used it at my very next gig. That gig lead to another. Who knows what will happen next?
Great little amp!
While waiting for another amp to come in, I picked this one up. I played at GC several times before I went for it. I love the clean channel. In the store, I liked the dirty channel too, but at home, not so much. The dirty channel cuts the bass, resulting in a mid-tone sound that is OK, but not what I prefer. I'm still keeping this for now because it is small and covers most of the ground I need it for. One use is to run my Line 6 HD500 into the FX loop and rely mostly on it's power section. Works pretty well. (Stop cringing.) But mainly, I find that this amp, a compressor and a Telecaster are all I need for just about anything. Done and Done. It's all about the tone, man.
Expensive, and worth it.
When I first saw these I knew I had to have one. When I first saw one in person, I was disappointed, but I hadn't played it yet. Then I found a used one and played it. As usual, it had a crappy setup, so I tweaked as best I could in the store and then the guitar spoke to me. I fell in love and bought it (at a good price - still not cheap). It was after I got it home and finished fixing the setup that it truly revealed itself to me. What a divine instrument. This guitar is not for everyone - mostly due to price. Only a few may appreciate the quality of the build and the minor details that make this guitar so superb. I knew I got a deal on it, but only later realized how great a deal. It plays like butter and sounds fantastic. I didn't need this guitar, it was an impulse buy and I am glad I listened to my heart.
