What a way to get into soundscapes and sound design. I have been playing this lovely instrument into a Polyend Tracker with an 0-ctrl sequencer/touch keyboard. The results have been beyond my expectations. This creates some truly space age sounds. It can also make more traditional synth sounds, obviously, but I can not help patching it up to get into weird and experimental territory. As someone who is very new to all of this, music and sound design, I really appreciate the clearly labeled patch points and sections that hold my hand and show me what I need to do in order to manipulate the signal path. I have already dumped hours into this device. The tactile feel of the knobs and the metal enclosure leave me with the impression that I am handing a very high quality piece of gear. Photos and video do not do the appearance of this instrument justice. It is not flashy, rather more something that looks like it might belong in a nuclear reactor control room. The paint is rich and the lettering is very clear and easy to read. It is lovely to look at, without really trying hard. At the end of the day, people are only going to care about the sound. I have been playing it without effects, and believe it sounds rich, especially getting the two oscillators pitch in harmony, using the 0-ctrl. Once I have samples loaded into the Polyend Tracker I have used the internal digital reverb and delay effects and the sound samples respond really well, I just try not to use too much effects because why cover up the incredible analog character of the sv-1b? I highly recommend, especially for soundscape design.
