The finest electric guitar I've ever played.

It instantaneously made me a better player. I'll attempt to describe better later. Mine, a Dusty Black 1996 Deluxe.

Recorded, which is my only reference, this kit sounds fantastic.

I became aware of these drums when reading about onetime Nirvana drummer Chad Channing, who played drums on all but 3 songs on the album. It is mentioned, in Michael Azzerad's book, Come As You Are, that the flared shells of Channing's North 'Formula' drum-kit (3 rack-toms, 1 floor tom and 1 kick drum in Channing's kit) were admired by Kurt Cobain as much for their volume as the perceived visual flair the odd-looking kit would add to the band's live performances. The kit Chad Channing played was, from the description in Azzerad's book, handcrafted from fiberglass by North Drums which was bought in 1978 by Music Technology Incorporated, who changed the production method to an injection-molded polystyrene process, changing the tonal character of the North brand drums produced from 1978 until the early 1980s, when manufacturing ceased.

A guitar that simply shouldn't sound as great as it does.

I haven't played any of these but mine, so I'm not sure if I happened to get one that just has "it", but this guitar is both a monster in the low-end crunch department, but also simply sings throughout it's entire range. 24-frets, 2 humbuckers and only a 3 position switch, but has excellent tonal variability, rock-solid tuning stability with stock tuners. Capable of being setup with extremely low action without any compromise. I prefer flatwound strings on this guitar. Extremely impressive sustain throughout its entire range.
