It alright
I got one from a thrift store for about 9 dollars. I put some nylon strings on it and it plays nicely and has a great tone
It's a good thrift store fine but mine is unplayable
got it for 10 dollars from a thrift store. I like it but the neck is extremely bowed and the truss rod is broken. but it makes a great wall decoration

In your case, the Kay Vanguard K100 could have had the wood between the truss rod and the fretboard break. The rod itself might be OK, but Kay were a bit cheap with the truss rod tension transfer wood, which does not run the whole length of the fretboard; it's not small enough to only be a pencil point, but it's maybe only 2 or 3 inches long in the middle of the fretboard. I'm not sure what its exact length is. To fix the guitar when this happens, the fretboard needs to come off and then a new tension transfer wood piece must be added. After that, the fretboard must be re-glued precisely in position.
