Well man If you want a good amp that I personally feel can do it all, I'd go with the Orange Crush Pro 120 head ($450) and maybe the 2x12 cab (not sure price) or the 4x12 cab ($600). You can get gnarly metal tones to overdriven tones, to the most crystal clear tones. But that's the amp I play so I'm very biased to Orange. But I feel I can get Jerry Cantrell's (Alice in Chains) tone in the ballpark or even Daron Malakian's (System Of A Down and Scars On Broadway) tone well in the ballpark. And I know Jerry plays Friedman amps and Daron plays modded Marshall JCM 800's but I don't feel I need a tube amp so basically it's your rig man, however you wanna mold / shape your tone, there are amps our there but in no way do I think of myself as an expert, I technically think of myself as a beginner because I've only been playing for 3 years. I use Ernie ball skinny top heavy bottoms (10-52). I play in Eb, Drop C#, Drop C, Drop B, and Drop A# however they get pretty loose around Drop A# so I'd recommend the not even slinky's or the mammoth slinky's for anything below Drop B. I play rock and metal too so a lot of chugs, harmonics, and a crisp clear tone comes through very well through those. I'm sticking with Ernie Ball personally but good luck man! - Kaiden
