Works great on a mac and on a desktop pc but it would never work on my dell laptop as the firewire connection on my dell was shit.

Nor solid review, but I experienced the same thing when trying to set up my uncle's firepod as a mobile, lap-top based system with his laptop. He actually had a pretty good laptop, but few non-mac books have decent firewire.
