Much more versatile than traditional ribbons with a truly unique sound.

The Rode NTR feels heavy and luxurious, with its built-in preamp. Out of the box, it's perfect for voiceover artists and anyone who wants a beefy, buttery low end to their vocal. Anytime I've had a bass talk into it, I'm just so jealous (I'm a tenor). Unlike traditional ribbons, it picks up much more high end. For lead vocals or anything that needs more air, I'll run it into a Clarett Air circuit or anything else that shifts the entire response to de-emphasize the low end and boost the high end going in. I A/B'd it against a modern, solid-state Neuman and the high end sounded comparable through that circuit.

It's a lot of fun to have a mic that the artist doesn't have to eat. This is more of a mid-field microphone. It's also fun to sing with voice students, having the mic pick up both up a la Beach Boys. I have a pair for Blumlein and other stereo needs. It's just been a fantastic mic, especially at the price point.
