For a long time I had been considering offering the ODR-C in a smaller design, which has been used for a long time for pedalboards. Since pedalboards usually provide enough 9 volts (or more) DC connections, all parts for battery operation (battery compartment, 9 volt clip, switch-on electronics, etc.) can be omitted. In particular, the space requirement is significantly reduced as a result! In addition, I removed the internal brightness control for the LED. This is practical - but not so necessary either. The effort involved in assembling these parts is reduced because fewer components and cables need to be soldered by hand. That affects the price! The sound-determining electronic components naturally correspond to the original ODR-C, so that the sound remains absolutely identical.

I decided to offer two versions: ODR-CC WITHOUT center control and ODR-CC+ WITH center control:

The ODR-C effect pedal is based on my development of the ODR-S from 1993. It based on the ODR-1 but with Germanium diodes and a 3-Band EQ. This is the much improved version, both in the selection of the components and the expanded sound options.

For the 30th anniversary of the Overdrive ODR-1, which I developed in 1992, I released a limited edition (200 units) at the end of 2022. Demand was so high that I sold out in no time. After that, I was repeatedly asked whether I should make this version again.

Now here we go:

The functions are like the ODR-C - but with two additional functions:

H/L switch for Low Gain operation. H is normal, in the L position the control range is reduced for better low gain settings. La critique majeure sur les BOSS GE-7 et GEB-7 c’est le bruit de fond. Poussez un tant soit peu les tranches d’équalisation et le bruit est redressé et ce, particulièrement si votre alimentation et vos câbles ne sont pas soignés. (Je le répète sans cesse : Ne négligez pas la qualité de vos câbles qui vont jouer sur la transparence de votre signal et l’alimentation que va elle, jouer sur le bruit).

Pourtant un equalizer est un outil polyvalent qui répond à pas mal de besoins : Buffer, Equalizer bien sur, Clean boost, volume box (dans la boucle pour retenir du volume sur votre ampli), boost pour les solos.. souvent négligé c’est pourtant un indispensable dans la collection de pédale d’effet !

La modification BOSS GE-7 The clairvoyant (Ou GEB-7) La modification The Clairvoyant rend le GE7 beaucoup plus silencieux. Vous pouvez le pousser dans ses retranchements sans souffrir de bruits parasites excessifs. Par ailleurs, au détour des changements de composants en qualité et en valeurs, on offre au GE-7 un rendu plus studio, plus Hi-fi. De quoi transformer un equalizer industriel en modèle haut de gamme. Qui plus est, vous pouvez profiter de son buffer ou même l’utiliser en tant que tel.

Analog Man presents the Boss GE7/Pro. The GE-7 has a boost/cut of +/- 15dB per band. The Pro mod is designed to improve clarity and lower the noise issues that the stock GE-7's have. Also available on Bass version GEB-7.

The GE-7 has seven bands ranging from 100Hz to 6.4kHz, ideal for tweaking guitar sounds, with boost/cut of +/- 15dB per band. This lets you completely control your sound and eliminate unwanted feedback, particularly when connected after a distortion effect.

The Pro mod is designed to improve clarity and lower the noise issues that the stock GE-7's have. This is accomplished by upgrading the IC chips and tone capacitors. We replace the cheap stock tone capacitors with high quality film capacitors like we use in the rest of our effects. This improves the overall clarity of the pedal.

VOLTAGE : The stock GE-7 can not be run over 15V. We modify it so it will run fine from 9V up to 18V. Higher voltage which will give even more clarity and headroom to the pedal.

The stock GE-7 can add some noise if you move the sliders away from center. Even bringing the two lowest sliders DOWN will add noise, try it! Our mod replaces three chips with the King of Tone chip, which is a low noise chip designed for tone controls so it's perfect in this application. These chips take about 40% more power (pedal goes from 16mA to 23mA), so a battery will not last as long, better to use a power supply. A normal alkaline battery will still last over 15 hours, so you can use batteries if you want.

We also change a bunch of cheap capacitors used for tone control to high grade metal film caps. This lowers noise and improves tone. Thanks to the people on the diystompboxes forum who posted info on modding this pedal. We used their ideas and tweaked it a bit with our favorite parts to make it the best sound for the price. We can modify the old or new GE-7 pedals or sell you a new one with our mod, plus optional LED change.

The session ace wanted an eq pedal centered entirely on the guitar's midrange frequencies. To that end, we take a full-range Boss GE-7 graphic eq and modify the frequency bands to focus on critical midrange frequencies. With the adjusted centers, you will find that smaller levels of cut and boost are required to make marked changes to your tone. This can allow for a more naturalistic or less 'effected' sound. Larger boosts and cuts can still be employed to significantly shift your tonal center. The Midrange Graphic Mod makes a fantastic boost that gives you pinpoint control of not just how loud you are but how you sound in the mix. Instead of terrifying your sound man with large amounts of full-range boost, you can pocket your sound in the band or in the track, stepping forward in the mix, not stepping on the mix. Black Emperor, the V8 muff recreated.

I've been sourcing and examining dozens of black muffs for this long-time project to find out there's no precise 'black muff sound' - they do vary a lot, thanks to poor quality of used components with really wide range of out of tolerance values. Comparing two black muffs can lead to an unexpected conclusions (well, the same for green ones, etc.), since they may work like completely different pedals. Eventually I found the unit sounding really good with it's tremendous low-end and extravagantly heavy feel. No surprise, many of it's components appeared to measure up to 40% out of indicated values, what resulted in very distinctive sound. I took it's recipe and added some EQ flavour from another, early 6-screw unit which I'm fond of for it's particularly bold, aggressive attitude... and that's how Black Emperor was born.

Black Emperor is voiced for relatively high gain fuzz feel, with compressed, bursting attack and earth-shaking bass content surpassing even the fattest green muffs I've tried. While it's bass capacity results in sound almost collapsing under it's own power, good amount of treble presence secures fuzz clarity. You won't find many muffs sound like that, but I make sure each of Black Emperors sound like it was the one fuzz device to rule all others.

There is also available mini box version with additional features and also extended 5-knob variant. This big box version is built in similar way to original V8s in quite an oversized enclosure (it's pretty much the same size!), with oldschool looking printed circuit board. Circuit is executed with many non-standard value parts I individually measure and select for crazy tight tolerance - all of these has been found in actual, 'out of spec' muffs I probed... call that happy accidents standardised and meticulously executed for superior tonal experience.

Black Emperor wants you to feed it with a standard (negative center) 9V DC power supply - no battery operation is possible by default, but I can add battery option on request. Current draw is below 5mA.

PS. graphic is black print on black box, so depending on reflected light it will appear in negative or positive.

Finish options vary from batch to batch, but sound is exactly the same in all finish versions.
